Congratulations to over 550 Metacafe Producers on earning one million dollars from Metacafe’s one-year-old Producer Rewards Program. The top video earned $27,829 — not bad for a three-minute gymnastics demo. With online video advertising expected to grow 53.2% in 2008, those numbers will only get higher.

Metacafe Shares $1M in First Year of Rewards Program

While YouTube only recently started sharing revenue with its stars, Metacafe has been doing it for a while now. They just started an interview series with their stars called Metacafe Unfiltered, hosted by Kevin Nalts and Angela Calman. Check out the first episode, featuring Brandon Mcconnell. This kid’s made $17,994 on Metacafe so far, with videos showcasing his spray-painting skills.

Metacafe announced that the Producer Rewards program continues to deliver unprecedented earnings and visibility for content creators around the world. Nearly four months after going live, Producer Rewards videos have been seen more than 50 million times. The top 18 creators have earned more than $5,000 each, and three creators have taken home more than $20,000 apiece.

“The Producer Rewards program has been a great success for both video creators and Metacafe,” notes Metacafe CEO Erick Hachenburg. “There is tremendous momentum for the program as submissions, views and earnings continue to grow at an extraordinary rate. We are building a vibrant community of content creators who understand that Metacafe is the only place on the web to get noticed by millions and get paid.”

Launched on October 30, 2006, the Producer Rewards program pays creators $5 for every 1,000 views of their video clips on Metacafe.com in exchange for the non-exclusive rights to distribute their work on any platform. Videos on Metacafe begin earning money once they exceed 20,000 views and a 3.00 or higher on a 1- 5 rating scale.
