Brandon Jones Fractures Right Shoulder

Brandon Jones, a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, has suffered a fractured right shoulder and will miss about eight weeks. Jones was acquired by the Niners in the offseason after playing his first eight seasons with the Tennessee Titans.
The loss of Jones especially hurts San Francisco due to the holdout by rookie wide receiver Michael Crabtree. Now their already thin wide receiving corps is even thinner.
Last year with the Titans, Jones had his best season. He finished with 41 receptions and 449 yards. The 26-year-old played his college football at Oklahoma.
The injury to Jones could open the door …read more

Unsigned NFL First Round Draft Picks

After a couple more 2009 NFL draft picks signed on Friday, there are still a handful of first rounders that remain unsigned. Here is a look at the unsigned NFL first round draft picks:
Aaron Curry, Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks needed help at linebacker and took Curry as the fourth overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. Expect him to eventually sign a deal worth around $30 million.
Andre Smith, Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals haven’t been able to run the ball in recent years. Drafting Smith with the sixth pick was aimed at fixing that weakness.
Eugene Monroe, Jacksonville Jaguars
The 6-foot-5, 320 pounder out of …read more

Michael Crabtree to Skip 2009 NFL Season?

At this point in the NFL season, there are always a few public battles between teams and their rookies. This year, it appears as if the most public battle of all is between the San Francisco 49ers and Michael Crabtree. In fact, Crabtree’s reps are already talking about skipping the 2009 NFL season.
Obviously the Niners could really use Crabtree’s help this forthcoming season. Their offense is weak and without Crabtree’s playmaking, they appear to be destined for a difficult season.
At Texas Tech, Crabtree was one of the most explosive players in the nation. In his last season, he had 19 …read more

Michael Crabtree Makes Demands

This past draft, Michael Crabtree of Texas Tech dropped to tenth, and the San Francisco 49ers thought they were getting the deal of a lifetime. Many speculated that he should have gone much higher, at least at number seven. Instead, the Oakland Raiders choose wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey with their seventh pick, surprising everyone. Al Davis is known for his random, weird decisions, though, so I guess none of us were too surprised.
Now, the 49ers kind of wish they would have passed on Crabtree as well. The rookie, who hasn’t even played in an NFL game yet, is demanding a …read more

2009 NFL Draft – Mock Draft

The 2009 NFL Draft takes place on April 25th and April 26th. Although there is a lot that can change between now and the draft, here’s a look at our 2009 NFL mock draft:
1) Detroit Lions – Matthew Stafford, Georgia (Quarterback)
The Lions seem to be eyeing Stafford as their pick. However, they also want to agree to a contract with him before the draft. If that doesn’t happen, Detroit appears likely to move on.
2) St. Louis Rams – Jason Smith, Baylor (Offensive Tackle)
With Orlando Pace leaving the Rams for the Bears, the Rams need a new franchise level tackle. Smith …read more

Congratulations, Michael Crabtree

Adding three more touchdowns to his record with the team’s win over Iowa this past weekend, Michael Crabtree has more than proven his worth for Texas Tech. As redshirt freshman, Crabtree has now broken the NCAA Division I record for most touchdowns by a freshman. That’s after only six weeks! He very well may break more records before this season is out, as long as the QB keeps looking his way.
Congratulations, Michael Crabtree. You are the embodiment of excellence in college football. In a year where there has seemed to be an increase in NCAA players having run-ins with the …read more
