A lot of PR bull hype is currently surrounding Call of Duty: World at War. Since it’s not being developed by Call of Duty creator Infinity Ward, there’s doubt regarding the upcoming FPS’s quality. It’s not helping that Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps got an IOU card instead of an advanced copy, so we should take every bit of news with a grain of salt.

The latest video for World at War gives us a glimpse of the shooter’s cooperative play. Obviously, the video’s more advertisement than full-blown gameplay clip (i.e. the Far Cry 2 video bonanza). However, it’s interesting to see World at War in action because it looks so purdy.

It was suggested in Phelps’ CBS interview that he played Call of Duty, so I’m wondering what he really thinks of World at War, minus the diplomacy.

New Call of Duty: World at War trailer is out

Remember the advanced copy of Call of Duty: World at War that über Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps received during his interview with the CBS Early Show? It looks like Phelps finally got a date as to when he’ll receive a working copy of the FPS. According to GameSpot, World at War is arriving on November 11 for the PC, PS2, PS3, DS, and Wii

If you would recall, Phelps was handed a PS3 copy of World at War, only to find out that an IOU card was enclosed since the game isn’t finished yet. Treyarch, the developer, did promise that Phelps will get the first disc off the production line.

Interestingly, GameSpot also revealed that there was no mention of the World at War version for the PS2. As you may recall, the PS2 is still the best-selling console to date. So while its recent releases have been shovelware, companies simply cannot ignore the console’s massive user base.

Would Call of Duty: World at War be as good as its predecessor? Would Michael Phelps play this next Call of Duty game? Since the upcoming FPS isn’t developed by Infinity Ward, the series’ creator, there’s a chance it won’t be as good. This however doesn’t mean the game will suck eggs. Still, World at War is up for a fight when all the good shooters crawl out of the woodwork when the holiday season approaches.

We all know Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps won a whopping eight gold medals in Beijing. What we don’t know is that Phelps is the first person on the planet to own a copy of Call of Duty: World at War for the PlayStation 3. During an interview with the CBS Early Show, the now-legendary swimmer was handed a copy of the FPS in question.

Here’s when things start getting even more interesting: According to Treyarch, the game’s developer, the game’s PS3 case contained an IOU card since the game isn’t finished yet. That’s right; Phelps didn’t get a working copy of the game. it was all bullshit PR.

The developer did promise, however, that Phelps will get the first disc off the production line later this year.
