TNA Bound For Glory Aired live from Sear Center in Chicago Illinois last night. While I didn’t have a chance to watch the Pay-Per-View, here are the results.

The return of the Steel Asylum Match. In case you haven’t caught a Steel Asylum match in the past, they have this huge domed cage and to win you have to climb out of the hole in the top of the dome. Even for someone who is fresh in the ring and not fatigued, this is a tough task. The winner goes on as the number 1 contender for the X Division Championship. The participants were: Sonja Dutt, Johnny Devine, Jay Lethal,  Chris Sabin, Jimmy Rave, Shark Boy, Curry Man, Petey Williams, and Super Eric.

Winner and #1 contender for the X Division Championship: Jay Lethal

Rhino, Rhaka Khan & ODB vs. Beautiful People & Cute Kip was a Knockout Bimbo Brawl with special enforcer Traci Brooks.

Winners: Rhino, Khan and ODB by way of Rhino gore in Cute Kip (You know, WWE and WCW always did pretty good about coming up with some pretty cool names, but TNA has a certain cheese factor with names like "Cute Kip, "Shark Boy" and "Curry Man". Makes me wonder sometimes)

TNA X-Division Championship match: Current Champion Abdul Bashir Vs. Consequences Creed.

Winner: Sheik Abdul Bashir retains the title by roll-up and ring rope leverage cheat.

3 way TNA Knockout Division Championship: Current Champion Taylor Wilde Vs. Awesome Kong Vs. Roxxi.

Winner: Taylor wins and retains her title when Roxxi attempts her finisher, but Taylor counters with a bridge suplex and pins her.

Monsters Ball Tag Team Match For the TNA Tag Team Title: Current Champions Beer Money, Inc. Vs. LAX Vs. Team 3D Vs. Abyss and Matt Morgan with special guest ref. Steve "Mongo" McMichael.

Winners: Team 3D gives LAX’s Hernandez a 3D through a table, Beer Money Inc.’s Roode sneaks in for the pin on Hernandez. Beer Money Inc. Wins and retains titles.

Triple Threat Match: Christian Cage Vs. AJ Styles Vs. Booker T

Winner: Booker T hits Cage with an Ax kick and pins him for the win. (Booker T has gone from a bad-ass black street brawler from Harlem heat to British royalty to African royalty? Who comes up with this stuff? Harlem Heat was an awesome tag team back in the days of WCW)

TNA Grudge Match: Kurt Angle Vs. Jeff Jarrett with Mick Foley as special enforcer.

Winner: Jarrett wins with a guitar shot to Angles head and a 3 count from Foley.

TNA Championship Match: Current Champion Samoa Joe Vs. Sting

Winner: Sting after a surprise appearance by Nash when he hits Samoa Joe with the bat. Sting gets the Scorpion Death Drop and 3 count.

Not a whole lot of Championship exchanges went ton here tonight. Kind of reminded me of some late 90’s WWF pay-per-views. This is why WCW was doing so well in the mid 90’s. WWE PPV’s got boring and people started getting pissed because they didn’t see the matches go the they wanted. Soon after though the WCW started to go downhill fast doing the same thing. Wrestlers started jumping ship and soon after the WCW belonged to Vinny Mac. Still sounded like a fun event though. Wish I could have seen it, but I have to save my PPV money for UFC events, where I feel like I get more of my moneys worth.

On another note, the BFG promo with everyone dressed liked 1930’s gangster, and Kurt Angle saying "Someone messes with me, I’m gonna mess with them" had to be one of the cheesiest promo commercials I have ever seen.

Mick Foley On TNA Impact, Wrestlemania Special Tonight On MyNetwork TV

Mick Foley made his first appearance last night on TNA. His contract with the WWE is up and Mick made the decision to try something new. I can’t blame him. Sometimes you have to change things up a bit in the wrestling world in order to stay relevant.

A lot of people wonder what exactly will be Mick’s role in TNA? He can’t play the Mankind character because the WWE owns that but he owns the Cactus Jack persona. Will it be a wrestling role or more of a commentary type roll? We may find out more on Thursday’s broadcast of TNA Wrestling. I can’t say that I have a clue because I’m not totally in to TNA as much as the WWE. I watch it when it comes on every now and then but it’s been tough for me to get used to that crazy ring. I tried watching a little bit of it last night but I’ve had a terrible head cold that has kept me from doing much of anything in the last couple of days. However I’ll be tuning in now more than ever with taking on the writing of Jab And Grapple. I’ll get into the swing of things eventually.

I’ve been a Mick Foley fan for awhile and I’ve always found him quite humorous to watch. He puts on a great show and cuts some pretty crazy promos. Not to mention the things he does (or did) to himself in the ring for the sake of ‘entertainment’. If you have not done so already, check out his books Have A Nice Day: A Tale of Blood and Sweatsocks and Foley is Good: And the Real World is Faker Than Wrestling. He has also written other books Tietam Brown, Scooter (both fiction) and The Hardcore Diaries but I have yet to read them. The first two were very hard to put down and were very interesting and funny.

1. Big Show makes short work of Domino. Umaga comes out. I yell “Welcome home to Pennsy Umaga…now go back to Allentown!” My genealogical accuracy might be off but my endurance is beginning to wane. We’ve been here since 7:00 p.m. and it’s now almost 11:00 p.m. I’m a lot more tired than I expected.

2. Let’s just say Edge’s introspection is compelling as is his drawn out dialouge with Mick Foley. But we wanted a main event! We wanted wrestling! And if not we wanted to see the Undertaker. That’s why we chanted “UN-der-TAK-er, clap clap clap-clap-clap, UN-der-TAK-er, clap clap clap-clap-clap, UN-der-TAK-er, clap clap clap-clap-clap.” We wanted to see the Undead Superstar more than we wanted to see Edge’s angst. Heck, we would have even settled for Paul Bearer. It didn’t happen.

I’m not saying Mick Foley wasn’t great. He was. But the entire Hershey, Pa. Giant Center crowd left disappointed. We did too.

8/1/08 WWE SmackDown: We Were There Again Part Three

Yes, it wasn’t just Tuesday night’s ECW event that we attended. The good people from the WWE also filmed SmackDown three nights ago in Hershey, Pennsylania. And we were there. Here are more of Mr. and Mrs. Jabandgrapple’s live and in real time musings.

1. Jimmy Wang Yang’s entrance music comes on before the show has even started. What is going on? Is he going to wrestle Mick Foley or Jim Ross?

2. SmackDown starts are Jeff Hardy appears. The Ultimate Risk Taker is even more dynamic in person. We love you Jeff Hardy His theme music comes on and we everybody in the Giant Center goes craaaaaaazy. Is he wrestling Wang Yang?

3. The WWE tech people work frantically to assemble MVP’s entrance tunnel, which isn’t that impressive anyway. Is he wrestling Wang Yang AND Jeff Hardy?

4. MVP keeps insulting Jeff Hardy and at this point Mrs. JandG throws some vulgar expletives down towards ringside. After watching the broadcast we’re thankful the WWE’s mics didn’t pick up those choice words.

5. It’s finally evident that MVP is the one fighting Wang Yang. He makes short work of him and we’re waiting for the fireworks between him and Hardy. Let it also be known that the indoor fireworks that accompany your favorite wrestler are FAR louder than they appear in person. Our hearing is still recovering.

6. The biggest cheer of the night comes when Jeff tells MVP to NEVER EVER EVER talk about the fire, about his home, or about his dog Jack. Jeff then hits a choice Twist of Fate and announces YOU MAKE ME SICK! We jump up out of our seats and yell at the top of our lungs, “YEEEEEEEEEEAHHHHHHHHHHHH” We both actually just repeated that yell right now!

7. Mr. Kennedy says we’re waiting for him to say three words. We wonder what the third word is. Is it Mister Mister Kennedy? or Mister Kennedy Kennedy?

8. Mick Foley admits on air that he listened to Tori Amos to get hyped up for matches. Let’s just say that suspect choice of songs explains a lot about what happens at the end of tonight’s SmackDown…

9. While we watched the Mr. Kennedy vs. Shelton Benjamin match I said “This is the type of technical, highly skilled grappling that true wrestling fans love. So pay attention. It will be a lot more exciting on TV.” (And I was right!) Still, the Mrs. yawned wondering “Well then, why don’t these two don’t involve the crowd more?” I gotta agree.

10. Mrs. JandG labels this contest “The Clairol Match” because both competitors ridiculous sport a amount of hair dye. Shelton’s roots are far less visible making him the pejorative favorite.

11. Benjamin hits a great cross body leap of the top rope but it’s not enough. Mr. Kennedy lands a Mic Check with puts the United States champion out for the count. Sadly, it’s a non-title match and his victory in the best match of the night means nothing.

12. Post match, the astoundingly beautiful Eve Torres approaches the ring. At the quietest moment of the night I yell “I LOVE YOU EVE TORRES” at my lungs’ peak. It doesn’t make it onto air.

13. We’re really impressed by how dexterous and fast Eve moves back to the dressing room in her ridiculously high heels. (5 inches?) BTW, her quickness had nothing to do with my professed love. Just saying.

8/1/08 WWE SmackDown: We Were There Again Part One

Segment One
M.V.P. is tired. His V.I.P. Lounge is even tired-er. His guest, on the other hand, is the best-est of the best: Jeff Hardy! The Ultimate Thrill Seeker seems to be taking some chances with his hair color which has shifted to a grandmother-worthy blue. M.V.P. announces the night’s Main Event: a huge Battle Royale with seemingly every SmackDown superstar.

Jeff Hardy wonders how M.V.P. can be so confident despite the fact that he’s become a jobber. M.V.P. then insults Jeff Hardy’s house fire which REALLY REALLY crosses the line. If he mentions Jeff’s late dog then I am going to hunt M.V.P. down. Oh, no he didn’t! He did mention Jeff’s dog Jack. I am stopping this live blog now and going to the Harrisburg train station to get a ticket to Philadelphia’s Wachovia Center.

What’s that Mrs. Jabandgrapple? “They filmed this show on Tuesday, M.V.P. is long gone.” I retort, “But we have tickets to this Tuesday’s ECW/Smackdown taping in Hershey. I’ll get him then!” She counters, “Sure you will honey, sure you will.”

Hardy beats me to the punch and hits M.V.P. himself. This segment was far too personal and ire-inducing for my taste. MY BLOOD IS BOILING! ARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH.

Then a Gossip Girl preview comes on and my anger dies down. I love that show. My accompanying picture? It’s Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively and a dog, in loving memory of Jeff Hardy’s Jack.

Segment Two
When Mr. Jabandgrapple’s personal favorite Shelton Benjamin earned the U.S. Champion belt he wasn’t interested in him fighting people like Jimmy Yang Wang, the redneck Asian. Benjamin pins Wang Yang before I can life my head from my computer.

After the match Edge attempts to congratulate Hawkins and Ryder on their Tag Team Title but the Edgeheads ignore and ostracize their former idol. It’s all too sad for words. What did Edge do to deserve this? Mrs. Jabandgrapple offers, “Well, he cheated on his bride with the wedding planner and then violently Speared her on their wedding night. And not in a good way.”

Oh. I stand corrected.

Segment Three
New Tag Team Champs Ryder and Hawkins prove that unless you’re wrestling singles in the WWE than your title means nothing. This ain’t TNA Impact! thank heavens. The Edgeheads are facing Jesse and Festus or rather one insane and powerful wrestler and his diminutive handler. We really miss you Road Warriors and Wild Samoans.

Festus easily pins Zach Ryder but doesn’t gain the belt because it’s not a title matchup. The bell rings, Mick Foley makes an Anita Ward reference (great great song; the youngsters might know it as a Fresh Prince sample), and Ryder and Hawkins predictably beat up on the poor simpleton Festus.

7/25 WWE SmackDown Part One: Ring My Bell Blake Lively

Segment One:
Edge is tortured. The wedding is off. Edge gives orders, he doesn’t take orders. The wedding is off. Edge is his own man. Now he’s happy. Vickie Guerrero is not good enough for him. Mrs. Jabandgrapple says “word”. The wedding is off. The Baton Rouge crowd still thinks he sucks.

Here comes Vickie wheeled in by Ryder and Hawkins. The crowd thinks she sucks more than Edge. Which is saying a lot. She’s putting the verbal smackdown, as it were, on Edge. She’s forcing Edge to fight the Big Show tonight in a non-disqualification match. So much for standing by your man. The wedding is still off.

Edge counters with “At the end of the night The Big Show is going to be just like you Vickie…a loser!” She cuts his mike. We’re excited for the Main Event and enjoy the squabbling pair who obviously still love each other.

Segment Two:
Matt Hardy vs. Shelton Benjamin
Shelton is one of jabandgrapple.com’s favorite wrestlers. We’re hoping he gets a push. Before that Mick and JR kiss head writer and former Fabulous Freebird Michael Hayes’ butt with some compliments. Doesn’t that guy already have everything?

Shelton and Matt are engaging in a lot of center of the ring holds. The match started slow but it’s gaining momentum and the crowd is getting into it. Benjamin is partaking in a lot of risky rope leaping but Hardy is not taking advantage. The Gold Standard hits a powerful and unexpected Paydirt (?) and Hardy is out for the count. This was an surprising and abrupt win for Shelton Benjamin.

Segment Three:
Mr. Kennedy is fighting Domino but angers M.V.P. who is doing some co-announcing with JR and Mick. Kennedy is dominating this battle and the brand’s new additions are all looking good. SmackDown is quickly replacing RAW as my favorite show. Kennedy downs Domino with a Mic Check and taunts M.V.P. just a bit. Kennedy is then surprised by Umaga who Samoan Spikes him to M.V.P.’s delight.

Segment Four:
Chavo Guerrero is going to settle the score with Edge and Vickie and make things right. Maybe the wedding isn’t completely off after all…

Segment Five:
Chavo intervenes with Vickie by calling Edge names. Doesn’t he know that this is broadcast on TV? Edge must have a DVR. He says “We’re both Guerreros,” but Vickie isn’t having it. She tells Chavo he’s fighting HHH. Oooooof.

7/11 WWE SmackDown Part One: The Wedding Is Still Off

Friday Night SmackDown, May 30, 2008

Match Four
Batista and Big Show def. Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins

Batista’s music and intro happens and I guess the Main Event happening at the half way point. Who will be Batista’s tag team friend? Batista grabs the mic and proudly declares “I don’t need a partner.” We don’t think Hawkins and Ryder are particularly fearsome either. They look pretty cocky and Mick Foley thinks it’s foolish confidence. He is soooo right.

The still wheelchair-bound Vickie Guerrero feels the need to taunt the Animal about his apparent friendlessness. But Batista has some clever semantics in store “I didn’t say I didn’t have a partner I said I didn’t need a partner. Cue Big Show’s music. The World’s Largest Athlete appears, wheelies Vickie off the stage, and returns to the ring to participate.

A one-sided affair just got a lot more one-sided. Will Ryder and Hawkins connect on any offensive moves? It’s doubtful. Big Show slaps Hawkins silly, pulls Ryder off the floor and into the ring one handed and slaps him silly. It’s now Batista’s turn to unleash some damage. Clothesline, body slam, spine buster, and now the inevitable Batista Bomb. Hawkins tries to intervene but Big Show catches him in midair and we have Bomb-choke slam landed in perfect synchronized tandem.

Segment Grade: B- This bout was an unadulterated and lopsided beating which was just ridiculous enough to be interesting. Batista and Big Show would make for an unstoppable tag team.

SmackDown 5/30 Part Four: Will You Be My Friend

Match Three
CM Punk def. John Morrison
Before the match starts Mick Foley announces that he hates The Miz. We wonder why and where that statement came from. He seems OK to us. But not to the referee who banishes Coral’s ex-housemate to the locker room.

CM Punk is doing a lot of kicking. Kicks to the head, kicks to the face, kicks to the legs, kicks to the abdomen. They all land. As opposed to the Shaman of Sexy whose kicks CM Punk keeps catching. Morrison finally gets a round house kick in onto the back of the disciplined one’s head but it isn’t enough for the pin.

After kicking out at 2 1/2 Punk counters a Morrison move which he parlays into a successful GTS. The GoToSleep serves its purpose and the former Johnny Nitro is down and out.

Match Rating: C This match had its moments but was ultimately very average. Sort of like tonight’s SmackDown.

SmackDown 5/30 Part Three: Kick Kick Kick

Friday Night SmackDown, May 30, 2008

Match Two
Finley def. Chuck Palumbo by DQ

It’s a rematch of last week’s fun match where Hornswaggle sneakily sprayed Palumbo with the mysterious Green Irish Mist. Paulmbo was “burned physically and emotionally” last week. After Hornswaggle takes his customary refuge under the ring Palumbo rides in on his Harley sporting a Slash-style hat. That’s Slash to your right, not Palumbo, although their weights seem to be nearing each other.

Mick Foley makes a Slash-related hat joke. We already had our comment written and the picture downloaded. Great minds think alike. Me and the guy with the sock puppet.

Palumbo has come out like a house on fire hitting Finlay with some violent fights and eager anger. This feud is holding a lot more of our interest than expected with these two clever brawlers.

Palumbo gets Finlay with a devastating boot to the head and looks to put him away with a top rope leap. Finlay gets out of the way and the match moves outside the ring, near the Harley and near the hiding Hornswaggle.

It’s getting good now. Palumbo pulls Hornswaggle out from under the apron but the evil leprechaun is able to escape. Chuck then takes the chain off his Harley and proceeds to clock Finlay in the face with it and is DQd. We want him to dive under the ring and get Hornswaggle. He doesn’t but we’re at least interested as he drives away on his hog. This won’t be the last time these two meet.

Segment Grade: B

SmackDown 5/30 Part Two: Is That Slash?
