What Do You Think of Bing?

The new Bing search decision engine from Microsoft launched two days earlier than expected and so far has been well received. Though Google will obviously be its biggest competitor, it’s very different than Google, offering a lot more than standard search results. The categories in the search results have been a big plus to me in my limited time checking it out. I also like in the video search when you hover over one of the results, it starts playing so you can get a quick preview.

Launch of Microsoft’s Bing Set for June 3

As we discussed earlier in the week, Microsoft is launching a major marketing campaign, estimated at $80 million to $100 million, to promote their new search engine. Bing will be the successor to Microsoft’s Live Search. You probably heard of Bing being developed in recent months under the name Kumo.

Microsoft Set to Launch Campaign for Bing

According to reports by AdAge and other sources in the last few days, Microsoft is set to launch a marketing campaign for their re-branded search engine, Bing. The campaign is expected to be an $80 million to $100 million effort. Those numbers are astronomical when considering Google itself only spent around $25 million in advertising all last year. But Microsoft’s current share of the search engine pie is relatively small. So they are going to have to make a big splash to make any sort of headway against Google and Yahoo, who dominate that vast majority of internet searches.
