Apple’s Mighty Mouse first arrived in mid-2005 as a peripheral exclusively for use with Mac OS X. It was met with mixed reviews, which over time have turned decidedly negative. Users have been turned off by the non-useful side buttons, the on-again-off-again Bluetooth connection the wireless Mighty Mouse has with the iMac, and the problematic track ball on top.

Apple has been busy of late filing patents for a new kind of mouse that uses multitouch gestures, and it looks like the new device couldn’t come a minute too soon. A company called Man & Machine has been using the term “Mighty Mouse” to describe one of its products for five years — predating Apple’s clicker by a year — and sued Apple for the name in May of 2008. The Patent Office has ruled this week that Man & Machine is the sole owner of the trademark.

If this thing does come true it will be one of the best mice I’ve seen ever. A Multi-touch Mighty Mouse would be killer. It would truly redeem the name of the Mighty Mouse, which till now is a severely over priced but slightly lacking pointing device.
Don’t get me wrong, there are some good things about it but I personally think it’s just not worth the price tag Apple placed on it. A Multi-touch Mighty Mouse made our of aluminum however is a different story.

Imagine a mouse that reacts to multi-touch gestures. No moving parts, made out of aluminum, sleek as hell, aaaahhhh… That’s something ain’t it?!!

It will not only be a good device it will be a piece of art. A conversation piece even.

So if MacBlogz’ concept mouse does make it to the market I will surely be lining up for one.

Current PhilMUG Chairman, Elbert has a nice first look at Apple’s new Wireless Mighty Mouse. He’s one of the first people I know locally to get his hands on a Wirless Mighty Mouse. He wrote a good detailed first look of the thing. If you’re thinking of getting one, read his review. It might just help you decide if it’s the right mouse for you. As for me, I want one.
