“On a personal note,” said Cavs head coach Mike Brown, “you always hope he’s doing well.”

Last season during training camp, West left the team to tackle his bipolar disorder. He went on to have arguably the best year of his career, averaging 11.7, 3.5 assists and 3.2 rebounds in 33.6 minutes per game.

Hopefully, the 26-year-old is safe wherever he is and can get his life back in order. The Cavs certainly need him if they are going to be true championship contenders this NBA season.

Reportedly, among those who believe that Brown was outcoached in the series against the Magic is owner Dan Gilbert. One name being floated around as a potential replacement is Pat Riley, who currently works in the front office of the Miami Heat.

After these reports surfaced, the Cavs completely denied that Brown’s job is in jeopardy. Personally, I can’t imagine that Brown could get fired in this situation. Outside of LeBron James, Brown doesn’t have much to work with offensively. And defensively, Brown had the Cavs playing very good defense for practically the entire season.

That said, if the Cavs stumble at all next season, Brown could be fired — this time for real.

I guess I’ve missed a couple of these in the past week. Mike Brown has been both busy training and blogging. Just a few weeks away from his 2nd title defense and rematch against Urijah Faber and Brown still seems to be in good spirits. That’s kind of what we expect from a professional fighter and champion. In this blog, which was written last Thursday, Mike said that if he had to take an educated guess who would win the Light-Heavyweight title that it would be Machida, and he was right.

(Image: WEC.tv Press Extranet)

For what it’s worth, I’m taking Machida. He’s just so tough to hit and hard to deal with. He bounces around, gets in and out quickly, and is really effective by simply throwing one strike at a time. It’s literally one punch and he’s out. I’m not taking anything away from Rashad, but my gut says Lyoto win will the title.

It’s kind of the same thing everyone else says when they describe how Machida fights but is there really any other way to? That’s what he does and that’s what he did. In and out and when the time comes to unload and follow through with combo’s, that’s what he does.

After UFC 98, I’m sure the MMA world will be looking forward to my fight with Urijah. I can’t begin to tell you how bad I wish we could fight today. Training is so tiring and I’m at the point where I just want to fight now. That’s how I always feel at this point in camp. I’ve paid my dues in the gym, sparred a ton of rounds, and grappled for days on end. Now, I just want to get down to business.

It sounds like Brown is ready to get in the octogon and get this over with. I don’t think this time around it’s going to be as quickly as the last time, but we’ll see. It’s not as if either fighter are taking things lightly. Both of them has the drive and heart to go in there and give everything they’ve got an much more.

He also says that he’s been watching a lot of tapes of Faber fighting. It kind of makes you wonder if that really does any good as Faber can be so unpredictable in his unorthodox style. As explosive as he is, it’s tough to predict and telegraph his every move. It’s going to be a barn-burner!

That entire card is going to be fun to watch, especially the main event.

In this edition of WEC Featherweight Champion Mike Brown’s blog he talks about the unsung heroes of his MMA career and training. He tells how supportive his girlfriend is and has been throughout his journey in MMA. He also talks about the often uncredited staff at American Top Team. Mike Brown may be a champion but he’s not cocky and is very thankful and humble. It’s fighters like that that have the biggest and strongest hearts in the sport. When they lose they get right back up and get back to training and ready for the next step. They don’t run off crying about it and making excuses.

I talk a lot about the fighters at ATT, but some of the staff there is equally helpful. For example, yesterday I was running a 3 ½ mile route. I wasn’t completely focused on the run because I had just finished working out. Next thing I know, I hear a truck pulling up really close to me. It’s the ATT Coconut Creek General Manager, a man we refer to as “Puma,” and a few of his staff members. They could tell I was a little unmotivated and they immediately began pushing me hard. It was exactly what I needed. Sometimes it’s not striking advice or jiu-jitsu technique that helps. Sometimes, you just need a little nudge or a kick in the butt.

In the latest edition of Mike Brown’s blog leading up to his rematch with Urijah Faber he talks about the recent Manny Paquiao fight, training, rest and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

(Image: WEC Extranet)

I had a chance to catch the Pacquiao-Hatton fight after the movie. What an amazing fight. Got me even more excited for my fight next month. Manny is just a lot of fun to watch. Now that (Floyd) Mayweather is coming back, everyone wants to see Pacquiao-Mayweather. I definitely want to see that fight. I’m telling you right now, I’ll be rooting for Pacquiao.

The lighter weight fighters is what keeps boxing interesting these days. I remember watching some boxing where I just was bored to tears for 12 rounds. I can’t stand watching a boxing match where the rounds are slow and there’s a lot of “hugging”, nobody does, the it’s all about strategy sometimes.

Mike also says he’s getting some well needed rest after his tough sparring training at the American Top Team training center in Coconut Creek. A little more than month and we’ll get to see the highly anticipated rematch between Faber and Brown. I know I’m excited to watch it.

These guys are all legitimate, top 155-pounders and they all walk around at 185 pounds. Training with guys like that has always worked well for me. Aside from being big guys, they are strong and quick. So when I drop to 145 pounds, I feel like I have the edge. I feel like I don’t miss a beat because I’ve already been pushed by guys who are faster and stronger. I know that if I can fight with them, I can fight with anybody.

Will Jens Pulver break his 3 fight losing streak? This could be a defining moment for Pulver in the WEC. With three loses on his record in the WEC, it kind of makes you wonder what his future holds with Zuffa. Brown’s second title defense happens on June 7th from Arco Arena in Sacramento California. Here is just a snippet of his blog entry. To read the entire entry go to WEC.Tv .

As much as I love to eat, I’m making sure to get the right supplements into my body and stay healthy. I went over to the Champion Nutrition warehouse and loaded up on some essentials. I got multivitamins, whey protein, and a few other things that keep my body recovered and prepared. The other key is rest. I usually take a nap every day around three o’clock. We go so hard at the gym, I really don’t have a choice. After our workouts, I just crash. Right now, my body seems to be responding well. I’m feeling really good. I spar hard at the gym and am getting ample rest. I feel like I could fight this weekend if I had to.
