Tension at the Table of Champions?

If you aren’t a subscriber of Doyle Brunson’s blog, you should probably add him to your reader.  He is very upfront and provides good insight into the poker world.  In a recent blog, he also revealed some potential high drama at the upcoming Table of Champions.
Read the Tournament of Champions drama.
I had heard about Russ Hamilton and the UltimateBet scandal before, but not the accusations against Amarillo Slim.  This definitely is going to put an edge on the tournament and should be interesting to see how it plays out.
I have no clue about anything against Slim and I doubt anyone …read more

Phil Hellmuth Covers The Ocean

I have never heard Phil Hellmuth admit to weak poker play on his behalf or even just shutting up when he’s been had.  Today’s video shows Sammy Farha running him over with Q6 of diamonds.  Farha flopped a queen and Hellmuth caught a jack.  Farha ends up talking Phil into a call which I thought was somewhat of a tell.  I may not have been able to sense it live, but on the video it obviously does become a situation where Hellmuth could have taken information had he been paying attention.
Farha bemoans the fact that Phil has shown weakness so …read more

Mike Matusow ‘The Mouthpiece’ Show

Fans of Mike Matusow will be glad to know that ‘the Mouth’ has his own q/a poker advice show via CardPlayer network that has by now logged a good number of episodes, which you can watch here.
I don’t know about you, but it kind of weirds me out seeing him with all the weight off. He looks at least a decade older, kind of like the guy in Metallica’s ‘The Unforgiven’ video when he was a college student or something.
I mean, good for him on losing weight, but, it’s just not the same Mike.

Mike Matusow on Omaha 8 or Better

CardPlayer has posted an instructional video by Mike Matusow on How to play Omaha 8 or better.
The audio on the video is insanely bad, all clipping and too loud, but Mike is a pretty decent Omaha player they say, so this video might be worth your time if you are interested in learning more about Omaha 8.
I prefer straight Omaha to its variants, but there is a lot of money to be made in these games online I think by newer people who overvalue their hands.

Pros Killing the 2008 WSOP So Far

If the current results are any kind of indicator, it looks like 2008 could be the year a pro finally sneaks the World Series of Poker main event bracelet back from the long line of amateurs and no names that have conquered the majority of this decade.
As of the past week or so, we’ve seen bracelets taken down in events by
Daniel Negreanu in $2,000 buy in No Limit Hold em.
Mike Matusow in $5,000 buy in Lowball (featuring one of the sickest final tables in recent memory including Tony G, David Benyamine, Erick Lindgren, Jefferey Lisandro, Barry Greenstein and Tom Schneider)

New Mike Matusow Advice Video

CardPlayer.com has a new live play poker lessons video online now featuring Mike Matusow, this time playing 2 screens of $3/$6 omaha. Again makes me want to see more though I’d never pay for such a thing.
Mike is probably one of the most erratic players in the game. You seem him playing what is pretty close to perfect poker and then right down in the middle of playing some of the worst crap game ever.
Though the media has found his market as the ‘Mike Matusow blowup’ so at this point maybe he has a PR deal where he has to …read more

Mike Matusow HORSE lessons

CardPlayer has a new tutorial video on their site now, available to preview here, in which Mike Matusow plays some $100/$200 limit HORSE. Not a whole lot interesting playwise, but kind of funny in several other ways.
(1) I don’t know what kind of mouse Mike uses, but it sounds like it’s from the 80’s. The click is the loudest damn thing I’ve ever heard. Fat fingers.
(2) Mike isn’t very good at predicting things. He says a lot of things are going to happen that don’t. He does announced that Jen Harman, who is also at the table, is a donk, …read more

Financial Backer

I’d play a lot better if it weren’t my own money all the time. Not that I’m playing with money I can’t afford to lose, but still, I’m not overflowing.
I wonder where all those old school players found their benefactors. How you go about that.
Maybe they had poker blogs and asked nicely?
Some of them still are super-donks.
I just read that Matusow has been on Poker After Dark 6 times and not won yet. That’s $120,000 in the hole. Boom.
It’s funny to watch those guys on High Stakes, losing six figures on a hand and hardly shrugging.
I heard something about Jennifer …read more

This Week’s Poker After Dark

This Week’s Poker After Dark

This week may mark the most annoying broadcast of poker I’ve ever seen. It’s mainly annoying because of Phil Hellmuth, which is new for me because I’ve always been one to support him despite the massive influx of people who think he’s annoying. I personally used to like his style and could feel for him when he’d play perfect poker and donks would still suck out. I liked the baby show.
But now success has gone so far to this man’s head that he can hardly speak without congratulating himself. It’s not cute anymore, it just makes him look like a …read more

Gross Evil Horror

So, if there’s anyone I can’t stand on this small earth, faux “comedian” (who basically only tells anecdotes in which she runs into famous people and says how weird it was) Kathy Griffin (and may I say dwarfed in annoyance only by the idiot mongaloids Tyra Banks and Rosie O’Donnell) recently went on a blind date with a certain notorious pro poker player on a recent episode of her garbage TV show.
Guess who? Mike Matusow.
Yeah, it’s about as gross as you might imagine.
I can’t embed the link here because youtube has restricted it, but you can watch this grossness here.
