The Minnesota Timberwolves are expected to be bad this season. Now their first month of the season will be even worse. Kevin Love, the second year power forward out of UCLA, will miss approximately six weeks after breaking his left hand during a preseason game.
Love broke the fourth metacarpal bone after colliding with a teammate. As a rookie he averaged 11.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 0.6 blocks in 25.3 minutes per contest.
“Fortunately,” remarked Love, “it’s my non-shooting hand.”
It’ll be interesting to see how the Timberwolves alter their lineup with Love not available. Al Jefferson will be one of …read more

The 2009-10 NBA season hasn’t even begun, however there are a number of teams that have no shot at winning a championship this year. Here’s a look at the basketball power rankings for the worst teams in the NBA as it stands:
5. Minnesota Timberwolves
The Timberwolves have a lot of good, young pieces — namely Al Jefferon and Kevin Love — but it’ll take a few years before this squad is ready.

Ramon Sessions is officially a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves after the Milwaukee Bucks declined to match the offersheet on the restricted free agent. Sessions will reported receive $16.4 million over the next four years.
For the Timberwolves, this is very good news and lessens the sting of losing out on Ricky Rubio. Sessions will help bridge the gap until Rubio is ready for the NBA. In fact, some NBA scouts believe that Sessions has a brighter NBA future than Rubio.
In Minnesota, expect Sessions to handle the point guard duties along with Jonny Flynn. Flynn was drafted by the team in …read more

Although the New Orleans Hornets had already improved this summer by trading for Emeka Okafor, they still had one glaring flaw — bench depth. On Wednesday, the Hornets made a move to improve that area of their squad by trading Antonio Daniels to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Darius Songaila and Bobby Brown.
The biggest name in this deal is Songaila. The 31-year-old is a very solid scoring bigman off the bench. Last year as a member of the Washington Wizards the native of Lithuania averaged 7.4 points and 2.9 rebounds in 19.8 minutes per contest. He also shot 53.2% from the …read more

Ramon Sessions has had a difficult time this offseason cashing in on his play in his first two seasons in the NBA with the Milwaukee Bucks. On Friday, he finally got a contract to his liking when the Minnesota Timberwolves and Sessions agreed on an offersheet worth $16 million over four years.
The Timberwolves were motivated to go after Sessions after losing Ricky Rubio. After drafting Rubio with the fifth pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Spaniard ultimately decided to stay in Spain. Needing a point guard, Minnesota turned to Sessions.
Last year with the Bucks, Sessions started 38 games and …read more

Kurt Rambis, the new head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves, got two new assistant coaches on Sunday — Bill Laimbeer and Reggie Theus. Both Laimbeer and Theus have professional head coaching experience.
Laimbeer’s coaching experience came in the WNBA. In June, he stepped down as the general manager and head coach of the Detroit Shock. While with the Shock, Laimbeer led the team to three WNBA championships. When he left the Shock, he said he wanted to coach in the NBA — and now he’s gotten his wish.
During the middle of last season, Theus was fired as head coach of the …read more

In the 2009-10 NBA season, there appears to be a few teams that will be fighting for the right to lead the league in number of ping pong balls for the 2010 draft lottery. Which teams are the worst of the worst? Here’s a look:

Quentin Richardson Traded to the Miami Heat

Quentin Richardson has had quite a busy offseason. For the fourth time in the last eight weeks, Richardson has been traded. This time, the Minnesota Timberwolves traded Richardson to the Miami Heat for center Mark Blount.
It appears as if this might be the fourth and final trade for Richardson. The Heat wanted him — both for his play and the fact that he is Dwyane Wade’s good friend. Pat Riley said that Richardson brings the Heat a prolific three-point shooter, a locker room presence and a fierce competitor.
Richardson played the last four seasons with the New York Knicks. Last year, …read more
Kurt Rambis Hired by the Timberwolves

Kurt Rambis will soon officially become the head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves. As we speculated last week, he’s been the leading candidate for the head coaching position for a while. Rambis’ deal will reportedly be worth more than $8 million over the next four seasons.
Rambis was a head coach in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers a stint during the 1999 lockout-shortened season. While it has been reported that Rambis would eventually take over the reins from Phil Jackson in Los Angeles where he’s been serving as an assistant coach, Rambis apparently didn’t want to wait any longer.
