MMAJunkie.com reports that some MMA agents are uniting to try to stop Showtime from auctioning the contracts of Elite XC fighters. ProElite closed it’s doors last last month and Showtime had invested money into ProElite and Elite XC and is owed compensations for the fall out. However, the MMA agents are fighting the legality of Showtime’s attempts to auction off the contracts as part of the ProElite liquidation. Here is an excerpt from the letter:

The unity of this effort is unprecedented and the message that is being sent is clear. Absent significant pre-established negotiated terms, do not bid on these contracts unless you are prepared to fight the challenge to their legality. It is our intention to honor our commitment to Pro Elite, but if Pro Elite is not able to perform in accordance with the contractual terms, the fighters should be granted unrestricted free agency with the unfettered ability to enter the marketplace.

Many managers submitted letters to Elite XC notifying them of breech of contract. A contract is a contract, and I’ve never seen the stipulations of the contract, but I don’t feel that these fighters should be sold like property.

The episode started out with members from Team Mir urinating in Tom Lawler’s bowl of fruit knowing that members of Team Nogueiro would steal and eat it…and they did. In fact they were loving it. Loving it knowing that it belonged to someone else…until Dave Kaplan told them what the extra juice was. Some took it well and others commenced to regurgitating it.
Team Mir retained control of the fights so they picked Dave Kaplan to fight Phillipe Nover.

They show Team Mir and Dave Kaplan training. Junie Browning was getting upset because nobody wanted to spar with him.

Back at the house Phillipe Nover notices that someone ate his Sushi. Someone tells him that it is Dave Kaplan that ate it so he puts "More Sushi" on his shopping request with plans and making it special just for Kaplan. When he gets the sucie Kyle Kingsbury and Phillipe Nover to put a little something special in the sushi in the form of male bodily fluids. Kingsbury finishes doing his dirty deed and they mark the Sushi "Novar" and put it back in the fridge. Later on they show Kaplan come in while everyone else is eating. He goes to the fridge and grabs a piece of Novar’s special sushi. When he comes back they ask him what he just ate and he says he ate a piece of Novar’s sushi. Kyle Kingsbury tells him what he just ate and Dave Kaplan is obviously disturbed by it. Kaplan tells Kingsbury that he will come in contact with his fecal matter by the end of the week. This is just getting gross and going overboard.

The Fight: Team Nogueira’s Phillipe Novar Vs. Team Mir’s Dave Kaplan

Phillipe Novar comes out throwing some really good punches. Dave Kaplan connects with a few leg kicks. Novar connects with some real good shots and Kaplan falls to his back a bit stunned. Phillipe mounts and start putting the pressure on Kaplan. Kaplan rolls a bit and Novar takes his back, puts him in a rear naked choke and flattens out Kaplan. Kaplan taps, end of fight in the first round.

Afterward Kaplan says that he wanted to test Novar’s punching power. He then still says that he’s better but embarrassed. He says he came out with a crappy game plan and got rocked.

Next up Light-Heavyweights Kyle Kingsbury and Krzysztof Soszynski face off.

Here is what the roster is looking like as of Episode 8:

Team Mir
Krzysztof Soszynski
Vinny Magalhaes 1-0
Elliot Marshall 1-0
Tom Lawlor – Eliminated by Ryan Bader
Junie Browning 1-0
Shane Nelson – Eliminated by Efrain Escudero
Dave Kaplan – Eliminated by Phillipe Novar
George Roop

Team Nogueira
Ryan Bader 1-0
Shane Primm – Eliminated by Elliot Marshall
Kyle Kingsbury
Jules Bruchez – Eliminated in by Vinny Magalhaes
Phillipe Nover – 1-0
Efrain Escudero 1-0
John Polakowski
Roli Delgado – Eliminated by Junie Browning

So there you go. Any chances of ProElite or EliteXC promoting any future fights are now in the hands of some one with a fat wad of cash. This is kind of strange seeing that just recently they told a few fighter’s managers that they would be promoting fights in early 2009. I’m not sure of the legalities here, but I’d be willing to bet that some of the fighters will be exercising their rights to file a breach of contract. It’s quite obvious that something a shady was going on in this promotion. I never liked this promotion for the simple reason that the fighters were cutting promos in a pro-wrestling style that came of scripted and cheesy.
