BCS Rejects MWC’s Playoff Plan

It’s no secret that the Mountain West Conference wants a playoff system. Other conferences may want one as well, but the MWC actually went to the effort to put together a proposal for it, which was rejected by the BCS today. Their plan was an 8-team playoff system that would allow all of the leagues an equal chance to send teams to the National Championship Game.
After it was rejected, David Frohnmayer, BCS presidential oversight committee chairman, said:

Tar Heels to close out 2008

It’s only appropriate that the number one team in the nation closes out 2008 with the last game of the year.
North Carolina will ring in the new year playing Nevada in Reno tonight at 7 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. The game will likely be over by midnight on the east coast.
Reno isn’t exactly Las Vagas. It’s more like Las Vegas Jr.
This should be another double digit win for the Tar Heels. Nevada, which usually does well in the Mountain West Conference, and makes a good showing at the Big Dance is 7-5 so far this season with no quality wins.

Alford is making noise on the recruiting trail

Many fans of the New Mexico Lobos were thrilled when former Iowa head coach Steve Alford agreed to take over their basketball program. And if their early recruiting success is any indication, everybody else in the Mountain West Conference had better take notice.
