How you position YOU will determine how people perceive your personal brand. As well as you living true to that personal brand.

Key is to ensure that whatever you want to share…then share in a way that is surprising, share a little more than they were expecting.

Key is also finding ways to share – and this is where social media can play a HUGE part as it provides tools that make it easier to share not only with your immediate friends but the world.

Key is also finding opportunities to share. One way is to ask “What can I do for you? How can I help?

Sharing is a way of showing how much you care. Friendships and networks are all about investment, investing time and energy to allow the relationship to grow.

In training sessions I urge people to focus their networking efforts. In my early days I got carried away with all the new social media tools and joined EVERYTHING and even tried to keep very active at all the sites. Great strategy if you want to get burned out! After those early years I would share my best networking tips

Focus is the key to great networking.

Understand what you want to achieve and choose the tool which best suits your aim.

Register at sites and grab your name but then look for tools such as hellotxt which will allow you to cross post to different networking sites.

Choose 3 main sites which you will concentrate your effort upon. I love podcasting, blogging and twittering so they get my full attention.

Set aside time each day to invest in your network. It doesn’t have to be 12 hours honestly! It can be 20 minutes even…but a little each day helps your network grow

Most importantly see what you can provide your network NOT what your network can provide for you. The more you give the more your brand will grow.

Ensure your profile is professional and reflect who you truly are….make sure it is consistent across all the sites.

Networking needs investement, the good news is that it is in terms of time not necessarily money. My biggest mistake was a lack of focus…..and a over enthusiastic idea of what I could achieve on a daily basis. If you want your network to grow then focus…and be consistent in your networking commitment.
