‘Weighing in’ on Mayweather vs. Marquez

I was a bit confused yesterday when Floyd Mayweather Jr. weighed in over the contracted weight limit of 144 pounds for tonight’s welterweight fight (HBO PPV) against Juan Manuel Marquez. JMM hopped on the scale first at 142 (two pounds under the limit). But Floyd was at 146. So what gives? Well, Keith Kizer of the Nevada State Athletic Commission confirmed that the contracted weight was changed (renegotiated) yesterday morning from 144 to 147. In return for his agreement, JMM received more money—substantially more money according to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer.
