What Was Bill Belichick Thinking?

Bill Belichick is one of the best coaches in NFL history. He’s turned the New England Patriots into a dynasty. But on Sunday night, Belichick made one of the worst coaching decisions you will ever see in any sport.
With the Patriots up by six points against the Indianapolis Colts with about two minutes remaining, New England faced a 4th down and two inside their own 30 yard line. Instead of punting the ball and forcing Peyton Manning and company to march down the field needing a touchdown, Belichick decided to go for it.
After the Patriots came up short on the …read more

Joey Galloway Released by the Patriots

Prior to the 2009 NFL season, many experts said that Joey Galloway would be a great fit on the New England Patriots. Galloway’s speed was supposed to be a good fit to go with Brady’s arm. However, after six weeks of the season, it was obvious things weren’t going as planned. As a result, the Patriots decided to release the 37-year-old wide receiver.
Said Bill Belichick: “He’s had a great career and this is one of those things that just didn’t work out. I don’t think it’s anybody’s fault or anything that you just pinpoint.”
On the season, Galloway had seven catches …read more

Cortland Finnegan Out for Titans

Cortland Finnegan, a starting cornerback for the Tennessee Titans, will miss Week 6 against the New England Patriots due to an injured hamstring. This is a big blow for the Titans, especially considering that Nick Harper (the team’s other starting cornerback) will also miss the game. Harper is out with a broken arm.
The Titans injury woes don’t end there. Vincent Fuller, a defensive back, is questionable due to an arm injury. Due to all the injuries, rookie Jason McCourty will have to start. The other starting cornerback won’t be known until kickoff.
As for the Patriots, they will undoubtedly look to …read more

Fred Taylor Injury Update – Ankle Surgery

The New England Patriots received some bad news on Thursday when it was revealed that Fred Taylor needed ankle surgery. To begin the 2009 NFL season, Taylor has been the Patriots best running back. New England didn’t put him on injured reserve, so there’s a chance that Taylor could return later in the season.
In the first four games of the season, Taylor had 45 rushes for 201 yards and two touchdowns. His best game of the season came in Week 3 when he ran for 105 yards and scored a touchdown.
With Taylor out of the picture, the Patriots have a …read more

Wes Welker Injury Update – Knee Injury

Wes Welker, the possession receiver for the New England Patriots, missed the team’s Week 2 game against the New York Jets. Although the team hasn’t released much information, Welker’s absence has been blamed on a knee injury.
For Week 3, Welker apparently thinks he will play — according to a report on ESPN.com. That said, Welker didn’t practice on Wednesday, which is a definite sign that he’s not completely healthy. If he doesn’t get back on the practice field on Thursday or Friday, you can expect him to miss at least another game.
Welker has quickly become a very important player for …read more

Week 2 NFL Power Rankings 2009

After Week 1 of the 2009 NFL season, the power rankings of the best teams in the league is easier to determine. Here’s a look at the 2009 NFL power rankings heading into Week 2:
1. Pittsburgh Steelers
Although their running game needs some work, the Steelers looked strong in Week 1 and should be considered the favorites for the time being.
2. Philadelphia Eagles
The Donovan McNabb injury is worrisome but the Eagles were scary good to begin the 2009 NFL season as they dismantled the Panthers.
3. New York Giants
The Giants looked strong and Eli Manning appears to have enough receiving options to …read more

Richard Seymour to Report to the Raiders

Ever since Richard Seymour was traded from the New England Patriots to the Oakland Raiders, there has been a lot of drama. Seymour didn’t report right away and there were rumors that Seymour would hold out until he was given a new contract. However, all the drama will reportedly soon come to an end.
ESPN is reporting that Seymour is going to show up in Oakland on Saturday. He won’t receive a new contract and will instead play out the final year of his contract, which is worth about $3.7 million. Even though he’ll be joining the team for the first …read more

Richard Seymour Traded to the Raiders

Big trades in the NFL are relatively rare. But on Sunday, the New England Patriots and the Oakland Raiders completed a major swap when the Patriots sent Seymour to the Raiders for an unprotected 2011 first round pick.
For the Raiders, this trade will help right away. Seymour has been one of the best defensive lineman in the game of football since being drafted in 2001. The 29-year-old will solidify Oakland’s defense — especially against the run.
The Patriots, on the other hand, continue their youth movement on the defensive end. While losing Seymour will hurt in the short term, most every …read more

Detroit Lions Claim Kevin O’Connell

Over the weekend, the New England Patriots released Kevin O’Connell. The backup quarterback apparently didn’t live up to expectation and that forced the Patriots to move on to other quarterback options. On Tuesday, the Detroit Lions jumped at this opportunity.
According to multiple sources, the Lions have claimed O’Connell. After losing all 16 of their games last season, the Lions had the first crack at claiming O’Connell — and they did just that.
Detroit needed a quarterback due to injury. Drew Stanton, the third string quarterback, will reportedly undergo surgery this week to repair torn cartilage in his knee. Daunte Culpepper, who …read more

Tedy Bruschi Retired from the Patriots

Tedy Bruschi is calling it a career. The New England Patriots linebacker announced his intentions on Monday. It brings an end to a 13-year NFL career — with all games played with the Patriots.
Although he has played less and less in recent years, this announcement was somewhat surprising. The Patriots will now need to rely on their young linebacking corps to fill in the gaps. However, New England won’t be able to replace Bruschi’s leadership, passion and inspirational presence on the football field.
In one of the most amazing stories in recent history, Bruschi was able to return to the NFL …read more
