I always think it’s interesting to see which teams have gone undefeated so far and which teams have yet to win a game. By this time, most teams have had at least ONE tough opponent and at least ONE game where they had a chance to win. Here’s how the lists look this year:

I always think it’s interesting to see which teams have gone undefeated so far and which teams have yet to win a game. By this time, most teams have had at least ONE tough opponent and at least ONE game where they had a chance to win. Here’s how the lists look this year:

Undefeated:

Alabama

Boise State

Cincinnati

Florida

Iowa

Kansas

South Florida

TCU

Texas

Winless

Ball State

Eastern Michigan

Florida Atlantic

Miami (OH)

New Mexico

Rice

Western Kentucky

Really, I think the big surprises here are that there are no major surprises. Few people would have put Iowa on the undefeated list when predicting records at this point in the season, considering that they played Penn State, but once again, the boys at Happy Valley choked.

I guess South Florida on the list is a little surprising too. They haven’t had a totally easy season. Cincinnati has (sorry, I know ya’ll love ‘em, but I’m not sure they aren’t totally overrated). Next week, they play one another, so that will end for one team.

Can they continue to charge ahead as they meet harder opponents on the field? Image: Newscom

I’m hoping that Cincinnati proves they deserve to be ranked so high, but I don’t think South Florida will just roll over.

As for the winless list…well…let’s just say that Michigan is happy to not be on it.

Mike Locksley isn’t letting people walk all over him, even while in the middle of a discrimination and harassment lawsuit by a former employee. On Tuesday, the New Mexico coach filed his own lawsuit, again Albuquerque lawyer Whitney Warner, who revealed details about a complain submitted by her client.

<img class="size-full wp-image-81741" src="http://www.everyjoe.com/files/2009/08/woman.jpg" alt="Not Sylvia Lopez, apparently.
Locksley allegedly fired 54-year-old football administrative assistant Sylvia Lopez because he felt like she wasn’t young enough to entice new recruits. Warner talked about the case to the Albuquerque Journal, making remarked that Locksley’s lawyer says were “extortive,” with the goal of forcing the university to settle.

Whether or not Locksley fired Lopez for being too old isn’t really the issue – it is whether or not the lawyers have a right to publicly talk about the matter to the press. Furthermore, will this really cause the university to want to settle? Will the lawsuit affect the team’s popularity among fans this football season?

When I love a team, I love a team. I don’t know about you, but the administrative choices made by the coaches won’t make me stop cheering for someone. After all, this whole mess is not the fault of the players. If your team’s coach was in the middle of a legal issue like this, would you cheer for a different team?

According to sources, Locksley’s former assistant, Sylvia Lopez, has filing a complaint accusing the new coach of sexual harassment, age discrimination and retaliation.
Lopez was part of Rocky Long’s staff. When he stepped down this past year, Locksley retained most of his administrative staff. About a month ago, Lopez transferred out of the department, and on May 1, she quit her job.

Maybe it’s just because I’m a girl, but this story truly touched my heart .

Sheila Smith, never one to miss one of her son’s games, was a single parent who raised Smith and his two siblings on a tight budget, sacrificing much of herself for her children. Smith was able to attend school on a football scholarship, but his mother’s death comes as a huge financial setback for him, as he is the next-of-kin and responsible for all arrangements and costs.

NCAA rules don’t allow Smith to receive money from anyone for any donation reason. However, a local bank – First Community Bank in Albuquerque – has established the Sheila M. Smith memorial fund to help defer the costs for Smith. All donations above and beyond the funeral expenses will be donated to charity in Sheila’s name.

Smith tells the Associated Press:
<block>“She’s going to be on my shoulder, helping me through everything,” Smith said. “As long as I keep her close, she’ll always be with me.”</block>

If you’re financially able, please help Smith pay for these costs. Already, the memorial fund is bring in some donations to help Smith and his family, and that, my friends, is what I love about this game. We all want a fair game in college football, and even though you may be cheering against New Mexico, you can still open your wallets for a good cause.
