The plot unfolds right after Mandela was elected when South Africa was very clearly divided from apartheid.  The citizens are separated by race and economic status but they do share one thing – a love for rugby.  This universal support fuels the nation’s underdog team as they make an unlikely run to the 1995 World Cup Championship match.

From the reviews, I’ve read that Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon really commit to their roles so it could be pretty uplifting which is perfect for this time of year.

When you release a free program that allows everyone and their brother [or sister] to create a creature and then upload it to the internet and YouTube you’re bound to have a few people [or a bunch] who insist upon adding certain “parts” to their creatures.

EA is apparently all up in boobs arms about the “misuse” of their creator and I’m really not sure why EA is so surprised. Once the complete Creator comes out with the game, there’s no telling what kinds of creatures are created with interestingly placed parts.

After the entire game is released, things will calm down and life will return to normal pre-sporn wonderfulness.

EA, take a deep cleansing breath.  Everything will be just fine.

Sporn Promises to Overtake Universe

I have finally hit the gaming wall where I can’t find a single damn thing that inspires me to buy it. Hell, I can’t even find something that inspires me to rent it.

Actually, I take that back.

I downloaded the demo of Folklore over the weekend and after ten minutes of trudging through the game, I really wanted to gouge my eyes out with a dull spoon. The story had promise but promise of a rockin’ story just can’t overcome shit game play.

I just searched the crap game on Metacritic.com and I’m damn surprised to find the game has an average score of 75 out of 100. WTF?

The reviews range from warm and fuzzy:

A great deal of the magnificence in Folklore comes from the little details: the serenity within a field of bristling flowers and cascading petals, or the charm of a stairway that rings with laughter when your character’s foot falls upon it – these are just a few of the many moments that may bring an awed smile to your face. – IGN

“Awed smile” definitely isn’t what I would call it. Grimace of disgust would probably be a more apt description.

To a review that I tend to agree with just a bit more wholeheartedly:

Folklore is one of 2007’s biggest disappointments. A PlayStation 3 game that at first seemed promising, but explodes in a fiery wreck, thanks to annoying dialogue, bizarre comic book style cut scenes and drab game play. – GameDaily

I know some of you are cussing me right now because I didn’t play the entire game. But I ask you, if you’re eating dinner out somewhere and the food tastes like shit, do you continue to eat the putrid crap so that you can more fully describe the fetid pile.

Yeah…didn’t think so.

Apparently the post that started as a whine about me not having games to play like Lunar, Oblivion, Kingdom Hearts, and Diablo II, this whole thing has devolved into a rant about a shit game.

Fox News Bashes Mass Effect

I wrote back in July about my discovery of Haze; I was beside myself excited about this game.

And then, Ubisoft broke my little ole heart and announced that they were pushing the game back to the fourth fiscal quarter of this year.

Now the confusion part comes in.

If you go to Playstation’s page for Haze, the release date is listed as 01/2008. Seriously, WTF?

Why are you playing with my emotions like this?!

Don’t get me wrong here. I don’t want to wait until the fourth quarter for Haze and a January release would make me quite happy.

But, why the back and forth?

I can’t help but wonder if Ubisoft was trying to avoid other games that might have been seen as competition.

I’m in a Haze of Confusion

Well, I feel like crap today so I’ll use that as my excuse for being the asshole.

God of War: The Movie is a bad idea. Plain and simple.

The first God of War game rocked. It introduced a new way to kill things with all of its head wrenching goodness. The manic button pushing to kill sea monsters was tons of fun. And, who didn’t love the minotaurs?

God of War 2 sucked.

OK. So maybe sucked is a bit harsh.

God of War 2 was redundant.

But, people bought it up like hot cakes [I've never really gotten that phrase] and it has somehow become one of those games that “you gotta play”. I played the damn thing for about three hours and then put the controller down out of disgust. I kept expecting something to distinguish 2 from 1; it never came.

I don’t even wanna talk about God of War 3.

So, when I read that the God of War movie is still on, I want to run to the bathroom and wretch. Actually, I want to do that anyway, but the idea of the movie doesn’t help matters. David Jaffe seems like such a nice guy and he’s really excited about the movie, but I’m just not feeling it.

I’m sure that God of War 3 is going to sell its ass off and I have no doubt that the movie will rake in the dough as well, but does that necessarily mean that they will be good?

Um, yeah. Not so much.

God of War Movie a Bad Idea

I posted the trailer for the cute little thing here and I was looking forward to the demo that was promised by the end of ‘07.

Unfortunately, I [and you guys too] have to wait until next year.

Ron Eagle, PR guy for Sony America, told Stephen Totilo that, “I can officially confirm that there won’t be a demo this year.”

I know it sucks, but game delays aren’t a new thing and the game is slated for full release in ‘08 anyway.

Just cross your fingers that they don’t push that back as well.

No ‘07 Little Big Planet Demo

Didn’t this game just come out?!

Evan Wells, of Naughty Dog fame, gave a purty darn honest interview with Three Speech and says that a second game is a sure thing.

“We developed Uncharted as a franchise. The pulp action/adventure genre lends itself perfectly to serialization…even if we don’t do an Uncharted sequel right away, you can pretty much count on us doing one in the near future.”

However, don’t expect the second game anytime soon.

Wells said that “full production on Uncharted lasted almost exactly two years…” along with “…about a year of pre-production”

So, it’s a fair bet that we can expect a similar time line with game number two.

Wells also mentioned that “Jak and Daxter is a definite possibility [for the PS3] sometime in the future” and that the game will be “using the Uncharted engine”.

Really exciting stuff for fans of not only Uncharted but also the tons of fans of the Jak and Daxter franchise.

Keep your eyes peeled for updates.

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune 2?

Let’s talk PC releases first.

Shadowgrounds Survivor is the follow-up to the underground hit, Shadowgrounds. The screen shots and buzz are promising for this game that plays up the tried and true “save the world from aliens” shtick.

Speedball 2 – Tournament takes rival gangs and makes them beat each other down with a steel ball. I tried to find the game on Amazon.com but Amazon laughed at me. You can buy the game directly from the game’s website but be warned that the “Order Now” page is in German. Scheißen!

Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey lets you make your own princess and then use her to help the Disney Princesses save their kingdoms. This game is perfect for the queen in all of you guys. [Amazon is saying that the game doesn't hit until the 11th. I'm leaving it on the list cause I particularly enjoy my "queen" comment.]

The Tuttles Madcap Misadventures: Starlight Starbright Charity Challenge features celebrity voices and supports the Starlight Starbright Children’s Foundation. A trial can be downloaded from their site.

Wii Time.

Game Party is a collection of skill games like table hockey and darts.

History Channel: Battle For the Pacific [for 360 too] is another WWII game that promises to be historically accurate.

Cranium Kabookii and Puzzle Quest: Challenge Of The Warlords are also released this week.

For the DS:

Boogie ,Geometry Wars: Galaxies and Master of Illusion hit this week for the cute little handheld.

Not much going on for new games…next week should fair better.
