Entering the fourth quarter, the Giants trailed 14-7. Then, they got hot. Lawrence Tynes hit two field goals and Eli Manning had a TD strike to tight end Kevin Boss. But with 21 seconds remaining in the game, Philip Rivers connected with Vincent Jackson to give the Chargers the the one-point win.

On the game, Rivers had three touchdown passes — two of which went to Jackson. Manning had two touchdown passes — one to Boss and one to Steve Smith.

While the Giants are plummeting, the Chargers are playing extremely well. They’ve won three straight games. Although LaDainian Tomlinson appears to be a shadow of his former self, the rest of the team is coming together nicely — especially the defense.

Next week, the Giants take on the Atlanta Falcons while the Chargers take on the Philadelphia Eagles.

During Week 6 of the 2009 NFL season, Anquan Boldin got injured in the second quarter in the game between the Arizona Cardinals and the Seattle Seahawks. Boldin returned to play in the third quarter, but then left again after the Cardinals built a big lead.

After not practicing on Wednesday, Boldin was again off the practice field on Thursday. However, he did some work on the side and the Cardinals are hopeful that he can participate in Friday’s practice. If he practices on Friday, there’s a very good chance that he’ll play in the Week 7 contest that has the Cardinals going against the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football.

On the season, Boldin has 29 catches for 306 yards and one touchdown. His best game came in Week 3 when he had six catches for 83 yards and a touchdown against the Colts.

Although Arizona is deep at the wide receiver position, they’ll need Boldin to have a decent shot at beating the Giants this weekend.

Even though the Broncos are 5-0, does anyone truly believe that this team is a Super Bowl contender? Many experts aren’t even believing that Denver will make the playoffs. I guess we’ll see.

4. Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings have won each of their five games. While nothing is too wrong with their squad, Brett Favre remains a question mark. Can he survive the entire 17 week NFL schedule?

3. New Orleans Saints
When it comes to an explosive offense, the Saints are at the top of the list. And though their defense is obviously improved, is it improved enough?

2. Indianapolis Colts
Peyton Manning has been fantastic. He has easily been the best player in the NFL this season. That said, he’ll need some help to win it all. His supporting cast isn’t somewhat questionable.

1. New York Giants
The Giants just look like a winner. They are tough on the road, they execute well and they are proven. As long as Eli Manning stays healthy, this team will be difficult to beat.

With the Ravens, Tyree will give the team another veteran receiving presence. Tyree will join wideouts Derrick Mason, Kelley Washington and Mark Clayton. So far this season, Mason is leading the wide receivers in catches (19), yards (284) and touchdowns (2).

When Tyree was signed, he was actually working out for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He left Tampa to go back to Baltimore and sign on the dotted line.

3. New Orleans Saints
The Saints have the most explosive offense in the NFL. Their defense isn’t great but it is much improved from the last few seasons. At their best, the Saints are very hard to beat.

2. Indianapolis Colts
Peyton Manning seems to have regained his spot as the best quarterback in the NFL. Last season, he dealt with a knee injury for much of the season. This year, Manning has turned back the clock.

1. New York Giants
With a hard hitting defense and an offense that always seems to make the big play, the Giants look like the best team in the NFL. If Eli Manning can stay healthy and Steve Smith can become a legit star receiver, another Super Bowl championship could be in the cards.

If the defense can remain healthy, Eli Manning seems to have found enough offensive weapons to keep the Giants dangerous on both sides of the field.

2. Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens were doubted a bit coming into the season but they appear legit once again. If they keep playing this way, the playoffs are well within reach.

3. Atlanta Falcons
The upstart Falcons keep proving themselves. Tony Gonzalez has been a great fit so far and the defense has shown some glimpses. Watch out for Atlanta.

4. Indianapolis Colts
The Week 2 victory wasn’t pretty but the Colts are now 2-0. Peyton Manning remains a force and once the defense gets back Bob Sanders, they could turn it around quickly.

5. Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings have won both of their games and they look strong. However, Brett Favre hasn’t been tested yet. We’ll wait for a test before moving Minnesota any higher.

Almost losing to the Bills wasn’t a great way to begin the season but this team is talented, deep and has Super Bowl experience.

5. Minnesota Vikings
If Adrian Peterson can keep running like he did in Week 1 and Brett Favre plays smart, this squad has very high potential.

To help the New York Giants win the 2007 Super Bowl championship, David Tyree came down with one of the most memorable catches in the history of the Super Bowl. On Saturday, the Giants decided to cut the wide receiver.
While Tyree’s catch will go down in Super Bowl history, him getting cut isn’t that much of surprise. The Giants have at ton of options at wide receiver and Tyree admittedly wasn’t having the greatest of training camps.

While Tyree’s catch will go down in Super Bowl history, him getting cut isn’t that much of surprise. The Giants have at ton of options at wide receiver and Tyree admittedly wasn’t having the greatest of training camps.

Said Tyree: “I’m not going to sit there and say I had a great camp and why would they do this. I didn’t have a great camp. I had a very average camp. It started terrible and worked up to average. It’s about performance.”

Prior to becoming a Super Bowl hero, Tyree didn’t have much of an NFL career. In the regular season, he had 54 receptions, 650 receiving yards and four touchdowns over the course of five seasons. Last year, he missed the entire campaign due to injury.

By all accounts he’s a great guy so it’ll be interesting to see if a team brings him in to serve as a mentor who has been there and definitely done that.

Here is the David Tyree Super Bowl Video for the few people who missed it:

Mark Sanchez was recently named the starting quarterback for the New York Jets. On Saturday, he showed the Jets that they made the right choice. In a preseason game against the New York Giants, Sanchez looked like a legit starter as he played very well.
For the game, Sanchez was 13-for-20 with one touchdown and no interceptions. His touchdown came on an impressive toss to Chansi Stuckey in the middle of the second quarter.
Sanchez pointed to his starting gig as a reason why he performed so well.

Said Sanchez: “You get a little more confidence when you know your coach believes in you and has named you the starter. It was similar to that at SC. Once you’re the guy, you talk a little different, you walk a little different and you act a little different.”

The Jets play their final preseason game on September 3rd against the Philadelphia Eagles. Sanchez will play in his first NFL regular season game in Week 1 of the 2009 season against the Houston Texans.

While all of Chicago was happy with Cutler’s performance, the quarterback himself wasn’t overly thrilled.

Said Cutler: “It’s preseason. Everyone got a little excited last week when we didn’t produce but we looked OK tonight. There’s still room for improvement, so we’re going to go back to work. We’re coming together as an offense. We’re not quite there yet.”

Also staring for the Bears was running back Matt Forte. On nine carries, the second year back gained 58 yards and scored a touchdown.

Both the Bears and the Giants are now 1-1 in preseason play.
