But even coaching from a baseball expert didn’t help Sanchez when it came to the Thursday night against the Buffalo Bills. The Jets won, but at a high cost. Sanchez “dove head first for a first down and seriously hurt his right knee that put him out of the game two plays later.”

Sanchez’ future for the rest of the year is still up in the air. A major knee injury for a quarterback heading into the last part of the season? It hurts. In more ways than one.

For the game, Sanchez was 13-for-20 with one touchdown and no interceptions. His touchdown came on an impressive toss to Chansi Stuckey in the middle of the second quarter.

Sanchez pointed to his starting gig as a reason why he performed so well.

Said Sanchez: “You get a little more confidence when you know your coach believes in you and has named you the starter. It was similar to that at SC. Once you’re the guy, you talk a little different, you walk a little different and you act a little different.”

The Jets play their final preseason game on September 3rd against the Philadelphia Eagles. Sanchez will play in his first NFL regular season game in Week 1 of the 2009 season against the Houston Texans.

Mark Sanchez Leads the Jets to Victory

Last year with the Jets, Franks was only able to play in eight games due to injuries. In those eight games, he had six catches for 47 yards.

Prior to joining the Jets, Franks played for the Green Bay Packers for eight years. The 31-year-old played his college football at Miami and came into the league as a highly touted tight end prospect. With great size at 6-foot-6 and 265 pounds, Franks had his moments throughout the years.

In 122 career games, Franks has 262 catches, 2,347 receiving yards and 32 touchdowns. It’ll be interesting to see if Franks will catch on with another team. Since he hasn’t been healthy the last few seasons, he’ll first have to prove that he has put his injuries behind him and is ready to resume his career.

Last season, the 26-year-old running back had a very good season. He rushed for 448 yards on 76 carries for an average of 5.9 yards per carry. He also had 335 receiving yards, 303 yards on punt returns and 1231 yards on kickoff returns. In total, he had nine touchdowns (6 rushing, 2 receiving, 1 kickoff return).

Washington’s season last year was good enough to get him to the Pro Bowl. Currently, Washington is scheduled to earn less than $540K in the 2009 NFL season. Considering his production, it’s quite easy to see why he wants more money.

On the field, Washington is expected to play a similar role this year. Thomas Jones will start at running back but Washington will get his share of touches.

Burress, who was the Super Bowl MVP for the Giants during the 2007 Super Bowl championship, was waived by New York over the offseason. Not only did the talented wide receiver have a falling out with the coaching staff, he’s facing legal troubles that could possibly land him in jail.

Currently, the two biggest receiving threats for Tampa Bay are wide receiver Antonio Bryant and tight end Kellen Winslow. If the Buccaneers sign Burress, he’d likely replace Mark Clayton in the starting unit.

The other team that reportedly has a lot of interesting in signing Burress is the New York Jets.

#5 2009 Draft Pick – Mark Sanchez, Quarterback, USC

I think that happiness will die quickly. Sanchez might prove me wrong, but they really need a franchise quarterback. This is a tough, tough, tough place for him to be. The Jets are the only team in their division without a great quarterback…and I think they needed someone much stronger than Sanchez. I mean, hell, he’s only played what, 16 games?

Sanchez says that he wanted to be with the Jets. If that’s true, he wouldn’t have looked so disappointed when Jason Smith was chosen… Just a thought.

Well, I wish him well. I still think he’s not as great of a player was some people think. When he was picked, a friend of mine texted me “Why doesn’t ESPN just blow Sanchez already?” It’s true. They GUSHED over him. Mark Sanchez, prove me wrong. Please. Or New York will rip you to pieces.

2009 NFL Draft: Jets Pick Mark Sanchez

In his seven years in the NFL, the former University of Colorado standout has played with the Indianapolis Colts and Philadelphia Eagles in addition the Niners. Last year in San Francisco, Strickland played in a career-high 14 games.

With the Jets, the starters at cornerback are Lito Sheppard and Darrelle Revis. Considering that both players are relatively young, Strickland’s experience will give New York a trustworthy option in the secondary.

Originally drafted in the third round, Strickland has a reputation as being a good cover corner whose lack of size and top end speed make him most valuable as a third cornerback.

Donald Strickland Signs with Jets

While BC is obviously trying to keep their head coach, this ultimatum is a bit extreme. Are they really that scared that Jagodzinski would get the job? At best, he’s a dark horse to land the Jets job.

All BC is doing with this ultimatum is making the next few coaches think twice about signing on the bottom line. If your school doesn’t want you to potentially further your career — or at least get the opportunity to interview — that’s not exactly the best selling point for future candidates.

If Boston College wanted to be smart, they’d bac off and let Jagodzinski get the interview. He’s likely not getting the job, so there’d be no real harm. Plus, the publicity hit isn’t worth trying to scare him away from the NFL interview.
