Not only was Garcia born near by Oakland, he also had his best years of his career while with the San Francisco 49ers. According to reports, Garcia joined the Raiders in part to be close to his Bay Area roots.

Garcia spent 1999-2003 with the 49ers. His two best seasons came in 2000 and 2001. In 2000, he had 31 touchdowns and 4278 passing yards, while he threw for 32 touchdowns and 3,538 passing yards in 2001.

Since leaving San Francisco, Garcia has played for the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. For his career, he has thrown 161 touchdowns and 83 interceptions, while accumulating 25,537 passing yards with a 61.6% completion percentage.

With the Raiders, he has a chance of seeing action. Russell is still a prospect with potential but he has struggled in his early career. If he struggles again in 2009, the Raiders may turn to Garcia in hopes that he can lead the team to victories.

Last year in the playoffs, Philip Rivers played even though he had a torn ACL. That move symbolized Rivers taking the next step. He’s now a rugged leader and with LaDainian Tomlinson slowing down, he could become the best player on the team sooner than later.

I guess the Packers were right. The management were all but pushing Brett Favre out the door — and now we see why. Aaron Rodgers can really play and he should continue to get better and better.

3. Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys
Sure, he’s a choker in December. But when he’s on, Tony Romo is really on. He has a good arm and usually makes really good decisions … well, before the month of December. This season, he has a chance to prove he’s not a December choker but don’t hold your breath.

2. Kurt Warner, Arizona Cardinals
Old Man Warner can still play. Who knew? This guy looked washed up for about the last half decade. Now suddenly he’s reminding football fans why he’s a former MVP and Super Bowl champion.

1. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints
Is there any quarterback you’d like leading your team? Sure, he can make bad decisions sometimes but Drew Brees has a huge heart and a knack to make the big play. He single-handedly has made the Saints a contender the last few seasons.
