Fed up with media types (hey, don’t look at us . . . We’re only guest blogging) talking smack about his clutch-and-grab style, John “The Quietman” Ruiz has issued a challenge. The WBA heavyweight champ times two invites reporters to place a bet on whether he or his upcoming opponent Nikolai Valuev will hold more in their August 30 fight in Berlin.

…and in other news a tree falls in the forest. You thought we’d have to wait until after the Ruslan Chagaev-Nikolai Valuev fight to make that joke! But no, ESPN reports that Uzbeki WBA heavyweight title holder Chagaev has pulled out his May 31 title bout rematch with the former WBA belt holder Primo Carnera, er, Toro Moreno, er Nikolai Valuev citing a severely sore throat. No, really.

Recently Announced Boxing Matchups
Former welterweight champions Shane Mosley and Zab Judah have formally announced that they will meet on May 31st in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
Former super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler will face Edison Miranda, potentially in Montreal. The bout will be aired on Showtime.
Ruslan Chagaev and Nikolai Valuev will sqaure off on May 31st in Germany. Chagaev, the WBA heavyweight title holder, defeated Valuev via majority decision early last year.
