It’s still very early in the season but Albert Pujols keeps showing why he has to be considered the early leader for the 2009 National League Most Valuable Player Award. With the St. Louis Cardinals coming into their game on Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates losers of three straight, Pujols slugged the Cards to a 4-2 victory.

They Said It: Jimmy Rollins

“All you have to do is win the game, and they’ll cheer. They want a winner. We want to win. They’ll cheer if we win. And if they don’t, oh well.”
Reigning National League MVP Jimmy Rollins offered up that quote Saturday while the Philadelphia Phillies were on a road trip in San Diego. The Phillies return to Citizens Bank Park tonight for a homestand that will last nine games.
Rollins has been criticized lately for his comments about the fans in Philadelphia on two TV sports talk shows.
