			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It&#8217;s still very early in the season but Albert Pujols keeps showing why he has to be considered the early leader for the 2009 National League Most Valuable Player Award. With the St. Louis Cardinals coming into their game on Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates losers of three straight, Pujols slugged the Cards to a 4-2 victory.</p>
<p>Pujols finished the game 4-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. In the first inning, he connected on his 11th home run of the season. In 2009, to go along with his 11 long balls, Pujols is hitting .364 with 31 RBIs and an on-base percentage of .467.</p>
<p>With the win, the Cardinals are now 18-10 on the season. Only the Los Angeles Dodgers (20-8) and the Toronto Blue Jays (19-10) have a better record at the moment.</p>
<p>The loss dropped Pittsburgh to 12-15. They&#8217;ve lost four ballgames in a row and sit in fifth place in the NL Central &#8212; 5.5 games back of the division-leading Cardinals.</p>

Reigning National League MVP Jimmy Rollins offered up that quote Saturday while the Philadelphia Phillies were on a road trip in San Diego.  The Phillies return to Citizens Bank Park tonight for a homestand that will last nine games.
Rollins has been criticized lately for his comments about the fans in Philadelphia on two TV sports talk shows.
