Goolagong Cawley gets recognition 31 years later
They say it’s better late than never and the WTA Tour apparently agreed.
Evonne Goolagong Cawley was awarded the No. 1 spot in women’s tennis rankings 31 years after she was actually there. Due to lost paperwork in 1976, Goolagong Cawley (No. 2 at the time) was not recognized for her two-week span at No. 1 in April after beating No. 1 Chris Evert in the 1976 Virginia Slims Championships.
Evert regained the No. 1 ranking the next month but Goolagong Cawley was never officially recognized for her achievement until this week.

Fourth time is the charm
They say the third time is the charm. For Roger Federer, the first time was the charm…and the second…and the third…and the fourth. Federer just wrapped up the year-end No. 1 ranking for the fourth consecutive year in the ATP race.
I know I talk about Federer on here a bit more than frequently. I’m working on branching out but when the guy just wrapped up the No. 1 spot and is chasing history books, I just gotta take note.
Federer Weighs in on Match-Fixing Debate
In an Associated Press story printed earlier today, Roger Federer was quoted as saying “I’m surprised by all of these stories, shocked really that this might be happening. I’ve been around for the last 10 years and have never been approached or ever heard anything about it until these comments came out.”
