Felix Gottwald is the Gold Medal winner (18 minutes 29 seconds) in the Nordic Combined Sprint event.
Gottwald’s victory bring Austria’s Gold Medal tally to 8 (the rest are 5 Silvers and 3 Bronzes). Most of Austria’s Gold Medals are won in events where skiing is an important element: Alpine Skiing, Nordic Combined, and Ski Jumping.

I had to work today so I missed most of the live games today and NBC seems obsessed every olympics with figure skating. But I did have a chance to take in the Nordic Combined today and was tired just watching.
I also looked away in horror as Hannah Kearney went into nuclear meltdown on the slopes. Even I, an unexperienced skiier, saw the horrible run she made. Too bad. She’s better than that.
Hettich (GER) wins the Nordic Combined!

Georg Hettich of Germany surprised everybody by winning Gold at the Nordic Combined (39 minutes 44.6 seconds).
The Nordic Combined is a two sports event that begins with a ski jump to determine the athlete’s position in the subsequent cross-country skiing.

Georg Hettich of Germany held onto his slim lead from the ski jumping portion on the way to what some may say was a surprising win in the Nordic combined individual event Saturday.
Hettich beat out a surging silver medalist Felix Gottwald of Austria, while Norway’s Magnus Moan took home the bronze in a photo finish.
