On the season, Holliday is hitting .286 with 11 homers and 54 RBIs. He’s also sporting a .378 on-base percentage and 12 stolen bases. The 29-year-old slugger was traded to the A’s prior to the season after playing for the Colorado Rockies during the first five years of his MLB career.

While his numbers with the A’s were good, they weren’t close to his great numbers with the Rockies. In 2007, Holliday hit .340 with 36 homes, 137 RBIs and 120 runs.

Now that he’s with the Cardinals, Holliday will likely hit fourth in the lineup — right behind Albert Pujols. If he can get hot, he could help the Cardinals keep their lead in the NL Central. Currently, St. Louis has a 1.5 game lead in the division.

The exact date and location of the surgery hasn’t been finalized but the pitcher is expected to have the procedure at some point next week.
Following the surgery, the A’s will have a better idea of how long Duchscherer will be sidelined. The exact date and location of the surgery hasn’t been finalized but the pitcher is expected to have the procedure at some point next week.

Following the surgery, the A’s will have a better idea of how long Duchscherer will be sidelined. Insiders close to the team don’t expect Duchscherer to return until at least the middle of May. However, if the arthroscopic procedure finds more damage than expected, it’s very possible for him to be out the rest of the season.

The 31-year-old from South Dakota is coming off of his best season in the big leagues. For the first time, he was a full-time starter and finished the year with a 10-8 record and a 2.54 ERA. For his career, the right-hander has a 3.14 ERA in 219 appearances.

If the A’s lose Duchscherer for an extended amount of time, their chances of making a postseason run will be greatly diminished.

Did you ever get the urge to throw your water bottle at someone, like we did when we saw that chick at the gym reading a book while doing leg presses?

Well, if the case of 23-year-old Roland Flores is any indication, we urge you to suppress the urge. (That’s not a typo; that was us engaging in wordplay for our own amusement).

Flores chucked a water bottle at Mike Piazza of the Oakland A’s last year during a game against the Anaheim Angels. Piazza was wearing a helmet and was not injured, but that didn’t stop a judge from throwing the book at Flores for throwing a water bottle. (Are you detecting a theme here with the wordplay? Yeah, your’re right. It’s getting old. We won’t do it again).

Anyway, Flores will spend 30 days in the pokey for using “force and violence to assault” Piazza and for “intentionally throwing a substance” while at Angel Stadium.

And that isn’t all: The bottle-tosser was placed on probation for three years and is barred from owning or possessing a firearm for 10 years (yes, 10 years). He also can’t set foot in Angel Stadium for three years.

The good news his, Flores can now trade war stories with erstwhile jailbird Paris Hilton.

The bad news is, Flores is spending more time in jail for tossing a 16 oz. container of H20 than OJ Simpson did for the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. . . Oh that’s right! Simpson was found not guilty by a jury of his peers.

*rolls eyes* Silly us!
