Castlevania: Order Of—Holy Crap, It’s Out Soon

Here we have some delicious media for Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. Which, as it so happens, is out quite soon. October of 2008. Where the hell have I been? God, you’d think I was working or engaging in some other manner of time-wasting fuckery.

Now that you’ve seen Shanoa execute impressive attacks whilst clad in high heels, you may hit the jump and watch more succubus showcasing.

Nintendo Power Then (Awesome) and Now (Awesome)

So where from does that picture of Trevor Belmont hail? I scanned it from an old issue of Nintendo Power for nostalgia purposes.

(I also scanned it so you can all see the monstrous package that fathered the famed vampire-hunting clan, because wow, Nintendo.)

Nintendo Power is a holdover from those near-ancient halcyon days when 8 bits ruled our lives and the playground. Everyone had a subscription, meaning that a game previewed in Nintendo Power was an instant sell. Developers reportedly performed some desperate acts to get a feature in Nintendo Power. Desperate, shady acts involving kittens and eating.

It’s the nature of humanity to grow up and become less naive about the world around it (ducking under a desk will not save you from a nuclear attack, I’m afraid, but you’ll fuse with the object and become one with the education system forever). Now we laugh at the “reviews” Nintendo Power published. In fact, the magazine still retains a reputation for being Nintendo’s pet whore, which is unfair: it’s actually developed into extremely high-quality magazine and I’d kill the lot of you for a chance to write for it. The previews and retrospectives in this month’s issue have only strengthened my resolve and now a pointy reckoning is hidden under my mattress.

Castlevania: Order Of Ecclesia Montage Video

Konami became so overwhelmed with new media for Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia that it decided…

It’s gonna need a montage. o/~

Even Rocky had a montage. o/~

It’s a treat to watch Order of Ecclesia in motion. Every time I think the DS has been pushed to its graphical limit, someone surprises me. See, these are the kinds of surprises my life needs more of. Taking a big swig of milk and then discovering that it’s turned isn’t a cool surprise, but it’s the kind of thing that keeps happening to me.

This bit of video footage shows off some of the bosses in Order of Ecclesia as well as some of the characters. Shanoa can expect to make friends and/or enemies with wise old men, red-eyed vampires and Win Butler from The Arcade Fire.

The Belmonts Will Live Forever

…Or at least the famous bloodline of vampire hunters will live as long as their caretaker, Koji Igarashi.
According to a recent discussion the developer had with MTV Multiplayer, Castelvania games like the recently-announced Order of Ecclesia will keep on coming.

““I definitely have a passion for the franchise. I mean, I’m definitely excited to do each iteration of the game — and also my team. A lot of people came to Konami because they’re huge fans of Castlevania. That’s another inspiration to keep on going, and it is a passion, definitely.”

This is good or bad news depending on whether or not you’re starting to tire of the DS’ ever-expanding stable of Castlevania games. On the other hand, I don’t want 2D gaming to die, and if you have to put up with the likes of Charlotte and Johnathan from Portrait of Ruin for me…Well, I’m sorry for your troubles, but I’m riding this horse ’til it falls to pieces under me.

That’s not actually the name for Konami’s latest installment in the Castlevania franchise, but I think it should be. Looks like lead developer Igarashi has his own ideas, and the title will be called Order of Ecclesia. Sigh, fine.
