It all began in an all too familiar fashion. A feeling of déjà vu, you might say. As Dropmal was dropped, skip Malik decided to end his ruefully bad form by opening the innings and batting even more ruefully till the time he saw Ishant Sharma’s face. 26/0 in 10 overs sure tells a tale. They managed to get 299 eventually as Malik finally got a century (you can always trust India’s bowling).

In walked GG and Viru. Out walked Umar Gul, soon to be followed by GG. What was Dhoni thinking, to send Raina at 3? Whatever it was, it worked. He scored 84 at a SR of 120. And yeah, Sehwag got a ton. And India won in 42 overs. Duh, this is repetitive.

P.S. The new guy is worse. Bring Dropmal back

End of winning streak
The amazing fact was that India did not let Pakistan be in top at any moment in the match.
End of winning streak

The amazing fact was that India did not let Pakistan be in top at any moment in the match. Most of the batsmen contributed to India’s score of 320, a massive one considering the fact that the pitch aided spinners. But not so massive too, considering Pakistan went in with 4 seamers. Brains man. Shoaib Malik did not even bowl himself. Pity. Maybe they are practicing for the final. I am not going to go into the scores and all, you can get it here.

A word of note for Shahid Afridi here. Thanks for reminding us who you are and what kind of responsible innings you always play. Cricinfo said this about his dismissal:

Chawla to Shahid Afridi, OUT, stumped! Afridi telegraphed his intentions as he ran down the track too early and that allowed Piyush to bowl it quicker and outside off. Afridi had also moved outside leg and couldn’t get bat on ball

Too bad he is such a talent. I should have had that talent and I would have made my country win a lot of games. WITH THE BAT!

I wanted to write that Salman Butt played well for his 70 in this curtailed (40 Over) match; but no, the bowling wasn’t that good.

The situation was summed up really well when, needing about 80 in the last over, Md. Ashraful conceded a maiden. Its clear that this cricket team (Bangladesh) is content with losing all the time. They are content with their every win being called an upset. I am upset now. They are the 10th most populous country in the world, surely they have talent. THEY HAVE TO COME OUT OF THIS ROT! India is next for them and I can guarantee another mauling, looking at the Indian team.

Lets see.

They are playing two of the most generous teams in world cricket, and that too on home turf; not that it matters.

Team:
Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt & wk), Yuvraj Singh, Robin Uthappa, Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, Yusuf Pathan, Irfan Pathan, Sreesanth, Ishant Sharma, Praveen Kumar, RP Singh, Piyush Chawla, Pragyan Ojha.

The business community in Pakistan is pretty keen on this idea. In an interview which the PCB Chief Naseem Ashraf, a controversial personality according to us, gave to the media, he said and I quote:

I caught this interesting peace of news on the web yesterday. Having seen the massive interest which the Indian Premier League has generated, The Pakistan Cricket Board is seriously contemplating a similar tournament in Pakistan.

The business community in Pakistan is pretty keen on this idea. In an interview which the PCB Chief Naseem Ashraf, a controversial personality according to us, gave to the media, he said and I quote:

“We will be waiting for a suitable time to start the tournament as many corporate institutions here have also shown their willingness to sponsor the event”

Though the International calendar is finding difficulties in creating a window for the IPL, he was confident that something could be worked out.

“There is presently no gap available for organizing such an event and the PCB would be working on the details”

Set Up:

13 Teams, each team allowed 2 foreign players, after all:

“But priority would be given to local players”

Our View: When it comes to Pakistan, there are always a lot of issues which precede cricket. Security being one of them. But what I also think is that it might be good. Lets the money come in. Let cricketers from all over the world benefit from the riches. Its entertainment for the rest of us.

Bangladesh Slammed" align="left" height="206" width="254" />Now this one is like throwing the cat among the pigeons. Everybody has a view. I am one of everybody. So, I have a view. If you are a Bangladeshi and you are reading this, do not worry mate. I am just surprised. With players of the quality of Mohd. Ashraful and Abdur Razzak doing the rounds, things can only get better. But that was about an year ago. Or maybe two. I am not sure but what I am sure is that there is no drastic improvement in the win percentage. Talking about it to my friends (great cricket analysts as they claim to be), they seem to be of the view that we should give these guys some more time. “Look at where Sri Lanka was, and look where it is now.” I beg to differ, guys. The times, they are a changing. Those days, people loved to see their side thrashing minnows. These days, we love the slam bang stuff. We love the ‘lesser’ teams stand up and challenge the giants. There is a romantic in everyone who wants Kenya to beat the West Indies (oops, this was a bit obvious).

The bottom-line being, sometimes people do not realise the prematurity of a situation, and that’s when we get a 3-0 green-wash (Pakistan v Bangladesh ODI Series, April 2008), and lots and lots more similar happenings preceding it. What do you guys think about it?

So, as I had been howling at the forums, it’s gonna be an Indo-Pak grand finale. No one believed me. “India’s chances are slim, boy.” “They can’t get past the Aussies.” “Heck, NZ might just kick Pak out, then?”
Everything, so far, has happened as I had wanted it to.
So, while I “bhangra” like Bhajji, you can go read JC’s match account if you missed the action.
