Tokyo, 4 April 2008 – Ahead of the ANOC General Assembly in Beijing, TOKYO 2016, Japan’s Bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games, today took a big step forward by gaining the strong support of the national sport federations and leveraging an opportunity to strengthen further TOKYO 2016’s plan.
The conference held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government gathered officials from Olympic and Paralympic sport federations together with Governor of Tokyo and TOKYO 2016 President, Shintaro Ishihara, JOC Sports Committee Chairman, Tomiaki Fukuda, and TOKYO 2016 Chairman and CEO, Dr Ichiro Kono. 7 February 2008, Bonn, Germany – Today, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) proudly announced the launch of its Paralympian Ambassador Programme.
The aim of this programme is to create a roster of top past and present Paralympic athletes to act as ambassadors of the Paralympic Movement, in order to be role models for young people with and without disability and act as awareness and communication tools for the Paralympic Movement to enhance and increase its public profile.
