Venus, Rafa and Murray into Round of 16
The down and dirty on today:
- Rafael Nadal is rolling. Rolling! Three sets later, Nicolas Kiefer is no more. I’ve never seen Rafa look so dangerous on grass. Anyone in his way is in for a serious fight if they want to move past him.
- I get such a kick out of watching Mikhail Youzhny on court. The man is just spastic or something. Whatever he is, he’s still finding a way to win. A see-saw five-setter with Radek Stepanek was more than enough to send Youzhny into his usual antics, and he just managed to come out on top …read more
Nadal Tested; Hewitt Rallies on Grass
The grass action is hot and heavy at Queen’s with all the big names coming out to play. Rafael Nadal reached the quarterfinals after getting pushed to three sets by up-and-comer Kei Nishikori. The Japanese player lost the first set 3-6 but rallied to take the second 6-4 before bowing out to Nadal in a 3-6 deciding set.
Nishikori turned pro a year ago and claims Nadal “as his idol.” Not too bad of a showing in the first meeting if you ask me.

Djokovic, Murray Through to Third Round
I love the two weeks at all four of the Grand Slams. They are generally the best eight weeks out of the year, but there is just so darn much going on it’s hard to keep on top of it!
Novak Djokovic is through to the third round after demolishing Miguel Angel Lopez Jaen in straight sets (6-1, 6-1, 6-3). Andy Murray bageled Jose Acasuso in the second set of his straight set victory, and the Americans should be leaping with joy as Wayne Odesnik beat Hyung-Taik Lee in four sets.
