Desktop PCs on Rough Times

Manufacturers making desktop PC motherboards are struggling with declining sales and it seems the trend would continue throughout the year and probably in the years to come. The reason for this is the growing popularity of netbooks, the availability of cheaper laptops, and maybe the growth of smart phones contribute to consumers’ like for smaller gadgets that provide enough productivity to enable them to work.

The desktop PCs is noticed by Intel which is the reason they held a summit in China for desktop manufacturers to boost the interest and keep companies from moving into different markets.

I myself haven’t used a personal desktop for the last three years and I have bought two laptops and a netbook during this time span. This doesn’t mean I don’t like desktops, but laptops have indeed become cheap and the idea of being able to carry my laptop or netbook anywhere add to its appeal.

However, I am not abandoning the desktop and I am actually saving up enough cash to build my dream desktop PC. My best friend Anton who himself hasn’t used a desktop for years have recently bought a desktop. I think the desktop market is not dead and sooner or later this market area is going to bounce back as long as they provide far powerful and cheaper pricing to consumers.

Counter Strike Guinness World Record

A new “most kills in Counter-Strike (Valve, 2003) in 12 hours” Guinness video gaming record was set by Björn “Threat” Pers of Sweden on 15th June at at DreamHack Summer 2009, Jönköping, Sweden.

If you are interested to beat this CS nutz’ record then you got to follow these rules:

1. Have to be played on the same map: QPAD AIM map.
2. 12 hours.
3. First to ten wins the match and meet the next challenger (King of the hill)
4. The player with the most rounds during 12 hours has to beat a total of 518 kills.
5. Players are only allowed to change ingame settings.
6. Counter Terrorist skin have to be used on both sides. (So both sides have same visibility)
7. No “duck” bind on mouse wheel
8. No scripts allowed
9. Freezetime 0 sec
10. After reaching 10 the result screen have to be pictured in combination with detailed written documentation.

Is either you break the record or yourself at the end.

Saint Seiya Online, Old Anime Hot In China

For anime and manga lovers who are old enough to remember Saint Seiya or Knights of the Zodiac, they should be glad that a MMORPG centered around Saint Seiya called Saint Seiya Online will be released by Sega this year.

In China, the online game was named 圣斗士OL and is already in beta. From the prizes (from PSP to MP3 players) that the Chinese players can get during this beta testing period, we reckon that Saint Seiya Online will attract new fans who have no idea who is Athena or Masami Kurumada.

When we have finished eating instant cup noodle, we’ll throw away the cup. The cup is deemed disposable but can technology be disposed? iPod, cellphone, laptop, LCD, Nintendo DS and more geeky stuff can be discarded as seen from Kyle Bean.

In other words, these technology gadgets may regard as just wants and what’s important may be the people and love around you. Worth thinking eh?

Final Fantasy XIV So, So Pretty

Final Fantasy XIII [13] isn’t even out yet and here we have the announcement of Final Fantasy XIV [14] Online. The teaser site for this sweet looking MMORPG is now live and includes screenshots, the trailer and a place for you to register for the mailing list.

The game will be available on PC and PS3 with the possibility of Final Fantasy XIV coming to Xbox 360 not being ruled out. So much for PS3 exclusivity. Regardless, the screens look absolutely breathtaking and I figure that FFXIV will appeal to a broader audience than most MMORPGs.

Look for FFXIV in 2010.
