Bases-Loaded Walk Gives Dodgers the Win

In the first seven innings, the Los Angeles Dodgers were dominated by Pedro Martinez. However, in the eighth inning, the Dodgers took advantage of the shaky bullpen of the Philadelphia Phillies. When it was all said and done, the Dodgers had beaten the Phillies 2-1 and tied the NLCS at one game apiece.
After the Dodgers tied the game on a Chase Utley throwing error, Andre Ethier came to the plate with the bases loaded. Ethier, who has arguably been the Dodgers best player in the postseason, was able to draw a walk to put the Dodgers up for good.

Pedro Martinez to Start Game 2 for Phillies

After winning Game 1 of their series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Philadelphia Phillies will send Pedro Martinez to the mound in Game 2. Martinez, who began his career with the Dodgers, will be pitching for the first time in the month of October.
In the regular season, the 37-year-old native of the Dominican Republic was 5-1 with a 3.63 ERA. After staying out of baseball for the beginning of the 2009 campaign, he eventually signed with the Phillies and pitched in nine games.
The Dodgers will be starting their own mid-season acquisition. After going 8-6 with a 4.92 ERA with …read more

Pedro Martinez Beats Tim Lincecum

Going up against possibly NL Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum of the San Francisco Giants, Pedro Martinez looked like the old Pedro Martinez who used to dominate batters. Riding Martinez’s performance, the Philadelphia Phillies were able to beat the Giants by a final count of 2-1.
In seven innings, Martinez gave up only five hits and one earned run while striking out nine and walking no one. With the win, he upped his record on the season to 3-0 and lowered his ERA to 3.52.
Lincecum was hardly disappointing. In his seven innings of work, he gave up four hits, two …read more

Pedro Martinez Victorious in his Return

Pedro Martinez wasn’t great but he was good enough in his 2009 baseball debut. Signed earlier in the season by the Philadelphia Phillies, Martinez helped his new team beat the Chicago Cubs by a final count of 12-5.
In five innings of work, Martinez gave up three earned runs, seven hits and one walk. He also struck out five batters while throwing 99 pitches.
After the game, Martinez talks about how happy he was with his performance.
Said Martinez: “It was really fun to actually get back to the game. Last year was a horrible year. It was a very tough year. I …read more

Pedro Martinez Thrives in the Minors

As Pedro Martinez continues his road back to the big leagues, he has been pitching against minor leaguers. On Wednesday, Martinez had a strong outing at the Double-A level.
In six innings, Martinez finished with 11 strikeouts. Does he think that this was his last start in the minors before getting to pitch in the big leagues for the Philadelphia Phillies.
Said Martinez: “I hope so. It’s not up to me to decide that. I hope this is my last one, and I hope that I am able to make improvements from here to the bullpen session.”
After sitting out the beginning of …read more

Pedro Martinez to the Phillies?

If you believe the current Pedro Martinez rumors, the former All-Star pitcher could soon join the Philadelphia Phillies. In fact, Ruben Amaro Jr., the general manager of the Phillies, was recently spotted in the Dominican Republic watching Martinez pitch a simulated game.
Martinez supposedly wants a $5 million prorated for the amount of the season that remains. While the Phillies might bulk at guaranteeing all that money, they may give him a contract full of incentives that could end up lucrative if Martinez plays well.
The 37-year-old Martinez has a possible Hall of Fame resume, however he struggled last year with the …read more

Pedro Martinez Drunk? Boat Party in Miami

Pedro Martinez currently isn’t employed. He’s a free agent pitcher who is hoping to land a contract from a team willing to take a gamble on his once great arm.
Recently, pictures arose that might have hurt his value. You can see Martinez with an adult drink in his hand and other pics including him showing some bromance.
Not only is it not extremely encouraging to see a potential employee partying on a boat, add in liquor and women of questionable character and you have a uneasy mix. Add to that the fact that Martinez apparently has the muscle structure …read more

Baseball Reunions We Want To See

With the news of Ken Griffey, Jr. heading back home to the Seattle Mariners, that got us to thinking about other baseball reunions we’d like to see:
Manny Ramirez
After all the drama that went on in Boston last year, who wouldn’t pay money to see Ramirez back with the Red Sox.
Pedro Martinez
Since the Montreal Expos are dead, Martinez should sign with their remains … also known as the Washington Nations.
Sammy Sosa
Watching the Cubs just isn’t as fun without Sosa. Without roids he probably weighs about 125 these days but at least we’d get to see that famous home run celebrations at …read more
