Big Ten Teams Shake Things Up

For the past several years, conferences like the SEC, Big 12, and Pac-10 have been complaining that the Big Ten is overrated. I’m a Big Ten fan, but I can’t say that I disagree. After a 9 – 0 start, Iowa rose out of the ashes of the Big Ten this year, and we all held the hope that this would be the team to challenge Florida or Texas or another awesome team for the National Championship.
It doesn’t look like that will be the case. Today, Iowa fell, but not to Penn State (no, they beat them gloriously – sigh …read more
College Football Week Four 2009 in Review

Ok, let’s get it out of the way right now and say that ranked teams need to step it up. I already talked about how the AP Top 25 changed drastically this week with a crazy 15 teams moving either up or down three places or more. Three places. Those are huge jumps and drops. It’s uncalled for, especially when you take into account that many teams had games that weren’t supposed to be that hard.
So, at least the top three teams stayed strong. Of course, the big news for #1 Florida, who beat Kentucky into the ground, was that …read more
JoePa Wants to Expand the Big Ten

Penn State’s Joe Paterno is never short on opinions, and recently there’s been a lot of buzz about his wants to have 12 teams in the Big Ten. Currently, the Big Ten is finished playing well before most other conferences, with a six-week hiatus between their season and the bowls. Paterno thinks that hurts the conference as a whole and keeps the Big Ten from being viable to produce a national champion.
Unfortunately, he also thinks that some people are laughing at him.
“You know, it’s a conference that’s dominated by a couple of people. If I start talking, they’re polite, but …read more
JoePa Stands Behind Bowden’s Wins

Florida State may have to retroactively forfeit up to 14 wins as the NCAA investigates an academic cheating scandal. While the school has admitted that some of their students cheated and are accepting some of the NCAA sanctions, head coach Bobby Bowden has said that the school will appeal any punishments that will strip victories.
This might not matter much to Joe Paterno of Penn State, but he and Bowden are in a dead heat for number of victories among major college coaches. Paterno currently has 383 wins, while Bowden has 382. He’d only have 368 is the wins are stripped, …read more
Joe Paterno is Sticking Around

Joe Paterno might be in his 80s, but he’s not ready to let some young whipper snapper take over just yet.
For the past few years, Penn State friends and foes alike have been speculating about the end of the 2008 football season. Paterno’s contract ends, and with a number of not-so-hot years over the past decade, people have been questioning his reign in happy valley.
Many of the problems at Penn State over the past several years could be chalked up to a less-than-impressive quarterback, which many attributed to son quarterbacks coach Jay Paterno. Some called for Joe to …read more
It’s been a Good Weekend for Joe Paterno

I promised a friend of mine that I wouldn’t gloat too much about Penn State’s 49-18 win over Michigan State. So I’ll just leave things at that as far as the game is concerned.
But it has been an EXCELLENT weekend for Joe Paterno. This weekend’s win put him at 383 for his career, ahead of Bobby Bowden, making him the NCAA-F coach with the most wins.
That means that the Nittany Lions are heading to the Rose Bowl. Schweet. Even if they lose, they’ll be 2008 Big Ten champs.
He also had successful hit replacement surgery today. On August …read more

I try to talk about all teams here at BCS Frenzy, but I don’t think that it is any secret that I’m a Penn State fan.
Tomorrow, we’ll see a match-up that is, at this point, the most significant game of the season for both teams. Penn State was never supposed to be this good. Ohio State was written off weeks ago after USC.
The fact of the matter is that this week, it is anybody’s game, and this could be a deciding factor in who plays in the BCS Championship game and will almost definitely determine who will play …read more
