Hybrid Driver … Genius, or Jerk??
Dr Helen posts some comments today after reading the “hybrid buyer’s profile” that’s been circulating of late. I tend to agree with her on some points:
Do you ever wonder if some of these tests are just geared towards making people feel “good” about themselves, particularly if they have what are considered “progressive traits” so that it will reinforce their buying habits
Yes, as a matter of fact, I do. I don’t, however, subscribe to the belief that hybrid drivers “smugly going around feeling they are saving the world” either. It makes no more sense to buy into one stereotype than another one.
Helen went on the attack over other generalizations though, as well. Like the article claiming Hummer drivers are either ego-driven power vacuums, or compensating for something lacking in themselves. The same could be said for someone who drives a Prius. Someone who’s lacking a college degree, or someone touting themselves as the next Eco-Jesus, for instance, might buy into the idea of the Prius being a “smart” car for “smart” people.
I just love this comment, though:
I drive a Mercedes C230. It’s their bottom of the line car that I bought because I love the service at Mercedes.
Mmm-hmm. We’ll just leave that one be, Dr. ;)
Cars definitely reflect part of our personality, just as much as the clothes we wear, the charities we support, and the hobbies we have. BUT what part of our personality they reflect, at least imo, is different for everyone. I know a lot of wonderful people, and they drive every kind of car imaginable, and for some, none at all.
