E3 ‘09: EA press conference highlights

On Monday, EA Games hosted its own press conference here at E3 2009. Here are a few highlights from the event.

EA Sports announces Fight Night Round 4, for the first time allowing you to pit Ali against Tyson, with spectacular-looking results. Check out the big-screen demo:

EA Sports announces and demos Grand Slam Tennis for Wii, complete with a surprise appearance by tennis superstar Pete Sampras.

Brutal Legend designer Tim Schafer takes the stage to unveil several new characters and show off new video featuring star Jack Black. Note: this video is NSFW.

A full level demo for Pandemic’s The Saboteur, which features creative use of color and black & white, and finds you working with the resistance in Nazi-occupied France during WWII.

Last but by far not least, a progress report on the highly-anticipated MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic, featuring on-stage Jedi and the world premiere of the game’s cinematic trailer. (If only the prequel trilogy had been more like what the trailer shows!)

Agassi and Sampras Will Meet in October

Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi will play in an October exhibition match in Macau. Sampras was reliving his rivalry with Agassi in a telephone conference today. He said, “We always had really tough matches and we brought out the best in each other.”

The two tennis legends will face off on October 25th at The Venetian Macao casino. Sampras went on to say, “When people ask me who my great rival is I always tell them Andre.”

Sampras has a slight lead over Agassi when it comes to singles titles. Sampras has 64 and Agassi holds 60. So, what are the stats when it comes to the times these two have played each other? They’ve met 34 times and Sampras took 20 of those matches.

Also during the conference, Sampras talked about Roger Federer and how he believes the tennis star will tie his record of 14 Grand Slam titles at Wimbledon. Federer just needs on more major title. Do you think he can do it?

All pot jokes aside, Phelps is an awesome swimmer and you might pick up a tip or two on how to win an Olympic medal. (Or at least smoke pot without getting arrested. DOH! Those pot jokes just creep right on in there, don’t they?)

Current bid for the swimming clinic was going for $2,500.

Now ladies, this is meant for folks to spend a day at a baseball clinic with Derek Jeter. Not just spend the day with Derek Jeter. Although I think some of you wouldn’t mind spending some quality time with him even if it’s at a baseball clinic. Bid is at $2,500 if you’re so inclined.
