Event #2 Down to Final Table, WSOP Updates

We’re down to the final 10 in the prestigious $40,000 no limit buy-in event. Yesterday’s leader, Greg Raymer is right in the mix at fifth place. Former leader and second place chip leader, Lex ‘RaSZi’ Veldhuis, has impressively maintained his second place status. Notable pros Ted Forrest and Tony G still remain, but are 2 of the 3 smallest stacks at the table.
In other 2009 WSOP news, Andrew Cohen took home $83,778 for winning the $500 buy-in no limit Casino Employees event. Event Number 3, Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better, is also nearing completion. There …read more

Are You Addicted to Poker?

Constantly logging in to get in another game.  Filling in any free time you have with poker.  Neglecting other responsibilities to get your hands on just two more cards.  Playing just to play.  Going into the red and spending money for other purposes on poker.  Do any of these sentence fragments describe you?  You might be addicted to poker.
Is loving poker so bad?  No, but I think where you go wrong is if you reach the point where you’re not enjoying the game.  I think there’s a significant degree of overlap between not enjoying the game while you’re playing and …read more

Annie Duke Loses Celebrity Apprentice

It came down to Duke and Joan Rivers and ultimately Donald Trump gave the nod to Joan Rivers. I’m not a big fan of prime time tv so I didn’t pay close attention to the show, but I did catch a few snippets of a couple of three separate shows because of Annie Duke’s presence.
I’ve never been a fan of Annie, but her abrasive personality on the show ended any hopes of me ever pulling for her. She came across as a control freak and just an all around unpleasant person. I remember one point in particular, …read more

This is Stupid: Cutting Fruits and Vegetables With Cards

Chris Ferguson is somewhat of a strange guy.  Here you can find him doing a pretty stupid card trick (if you want to give this credit and call it a card trick). No poker here, but this is a legitimate poker pro wasting time, vegetables, and fruit all in order to make a pointless video. I am not impressed. If you are, Chris Ferguson lets you know how to do this trick at the end of video two.
The last video gives you an idea of how many takes were needed to film the first two. …read more

Backgammon

Even in backgammon, Hansen cuts em from behind:

Poker and backgammon are supposedly so similar, I guess when you’ve got it, you’ve got it.
I want to learn to play backgammon again, anyone know good places to do so online?

Poker After Dark Cash Game on Pokertube

For those of you like me who’ve seen every episode of High Stakes Poker enough times to know every hand backwards and forwards (I’m a dork, I know), they’ve now posted video from the week Poker After Dark turned into a cash game format, which if you ask me, was way better than their usual tournament style broadcast.
Here’s part one, all four parts are available linked from it on Pokertube, including Howard Lederer, Doyle Brunson, Patrik Antonius, and more:

When will there be another poker cash game show? I know the next season of High Stakes is on its way, but …read more

And you thought the High Stakes Poker theme was bad…

I don’t know what makes people think they can write songs about poker. ‘The Gambler’ I guess is a decent one, but that doesn’t try to be too specific. Poker-themed anything is usually pretty cheesy, but when it translates over to music is can be pretty bad.
Or downright cringe-inducing enough to make you want to slap yourself in the face.
Like this rap song, ‘Stu Ungar’ by some group called Side C. I found it hard to listen through far enough even to say something about it on this blog.
I mean, really, only listen to this if you have a …read more

‘If they never played poker’ The Blog

I ran across a pretty amusing poker column today, featuring heavily photoshopped images of famous poker pros and what they would look like and be doing if they didn’t get into poker:
If they never played poker
Daniel Negreanu in the Village People somehow seems quite appropriate.
As does Phil Hellmuth featured on a box of female douche.
I don’t know who had time to make all these, but they are definitely good for a chuckle or two.

David Benyamine’s Crib

Cardplayer TV tours David Benyamine’s crib for their High Stakes Cribs feature, giving you a backdoor glimpse into how poker players live.
Though, Benyamine’s house looks awful like those newer rappers on MTV who are rich so new that they haven’t bothered to do anything, and they basically live in a big expensive empty house.
Not exactly what you’d expect from a British millionaire +, but something to look at anyway.
