Every time I log onto the internet, I find myself drawn to the dark side. I peruse a few of the illicit websites and check out the latest videos regularly. I can even credit a few of my signature moves to repeatedly watching a scene until I was sure I had the technique memorized.

Image: sxc.hu

If you are like me, then you have seen the majority of porn on the market. You know who the big stars are and can even name the last movie Jenna Jameson made (cough, Zombie Strippers, cough) but justifying the time spent in front of the computer and/or television comes down to one basic fact. Porn improves your sex life!

Now, I am a firm believer that porn should be watched often and with purpose. I don’t pop in Debbie Does Dallas during the afternoon when I can watch an episode of Cops. First, because I have a thing about watching excessive amounts of sex during daylight hours and second, because I’ve yet to be able to boast that I’ve seen every episode of Cops and one day I vow to hold that title!

Porn serves to show us what the newest and most inventive styles are. When women started getting boob jobs, actually going to the gym, trimming their nether regions, or even going with hardwood floors; all were first seen in porn. As tattoos have become more main stream, I believe this acceptance can be laid at the feet of the adult film industry along with other body modifications. (I seem to remember a time in college when my buddy, Tim, used his DVD player to pause and zoom in on an actress to ascertain whether or not she had her hood pierced because neither of us had ever seen it before.)

Teenage boys everywhere learned how to properly use their tongues after seeing a pizza delivery boy passionately kiss a lonely woman on a Friday night. Subsequently, Dominos saw an increase in their job force as well. They learned that kissing, sucking, and licking were all vitally important actions to be performed in various areas of the female body. Guys were able to see what the big deal was regarding the clitoris and how to correctly insert their fingers.

After a while, fellas get tired of seeing sex the same old way. Yep, even we like variety! That is where we start branching out on the types of videos watched. It could be something as simple as anal play or water sports or even head down the dark path known as BDSM. We use these avenues to test our limits and figure out what turns us on. We realize what we will and won’t try.

As I grew out of my pubescent years and into the man I am today, I found that women are drawn to the pornographic too. Their tastes lie in the more socially acceptable realm, commonly called the romance novel, but occasionally I found a chick who wanted a more visual experience. I learned that letting my female companion choose the video let me know what she had done, wanted to do, and wouldn’t try if I begged. We were able to discuss the possibilities and laugh over the ridiculous but eventually it set the mood so we could stage a re-enactment.

Overall, while porn can be bad if abused, it is a positive influence in the lives of men the world over. We no longer feel the need to hide it under the very bed we use to imitate it on, because after all, you have got to give credit where credit is due.

Stephen Dorff has signed on to be in Sony Picture’s new movie Born to Be A Star which puts him right in the middle of the porn industry. I haven’t seen Dorff in anything noteworthy recently so I guess he’s heading to adult films like all struggling actors (kidding!).

In the movie, which was co-written by Adam Sandler (he’s also the producer), Dorff will play “Dick Shadow,” a legendary porn star. I’m not sure where he fits into the storyline which is about a small-town Midwestern nerd (played by the script’s co-writer, Nick Swardson) who discovers his parents were famous porn stars. I’m guessing the revelation inspires the nerd because IMDb says the movie is about “A kid from the Midwest moves out to Hollywood in order to follow in his parents footsteps — and become a porn star.” Christina Ricci will play Swardson’s girlfriend.

Filming is expected to begin next week.

Can I just take a minute to talk about the fact that this is yet another mainstream movie about people wanting to get into the porn industry? With films like this one and Zack and Miri Make a Porno and The Girl Next Door, is porn becoming less taboo and more acceptable?

Whatever the case, hopefully, this will be a nice way for Dorff (and Ricci) to ease back into the spotlight. The last thing that I saw him in that I actually enjoyed (except for the episode of Punk’d where he made himself look like a total jerk) was Blade.
