BlogHer08: Best. Conference. Ever.

(www.bizchicksrule.com) — Despite the fact that I was something of a minority as a non-mommyblogger amid hundreds of baby-toting mammas, I had a BLAST at BlogHer08 in San Francisco. The Who We Are track was fantastic, and I thoroughly enjoyed the sessions about blogging on your passions, "coming out" (or exposing your vulnerability) through blogging, and, during the Day-3 Unconference, blogging without boundaries and expectations.
One of the coolest things about the experience, aside from the fact that I got to learn more about how to get better at doing something I love, was interacting with these women who are sharing …read more

Step Out of Your Comfort Zone: On Going to a Conference in a Strange City All By Yourself

I’m a nervous traveller, I hate crowds, and I have a constant fear of becoming lost in strange cities and never being found (despite being literate, owning a cell phone, and never having left the country). Yesterday, I flew to Chicago by myself to attend a conference (SOBCon08) where I didn’t know a single person in a city I had never visited, where I have been sharing a hotel room with a complete stranger from another country. I couldn’t sleep for the two days before because of being totally freaked out, and when my plane was briefly diverted because of …read more

Starting A Business – The First Thing To Do

I took a look at this insightful post that Kristen made a few weeks ago that is so true. While my wonderful co-blogger and I will be writing and offering information on business and career planning, did you know the most important thing in any successful buisness is a good business plan? Yes, it’s true. Without one, you will be like a man driving with blindfolds on – – he’s moving along but he doesn’t know where he’s going.
(I love it!)
In March, I’m going to kick off a series on Business Planning 101 to help those of us (and I …read more

What I Learned About Business Strategizing By Watching My 3-Year Old Son Play Wii Tennis

Yes, it’s true. I get my business tips from a 3-year old.
He stayed home today with a little cough (he has asthma) and the first thing he wanted to do when he found out that he didn’t have to go to school today was, “Can I play the Wii game Mommy, pllleeeeaaaassseee?” So, I said yes. I had/have a lot of work today and figured that would occupy him until I’m done. But before I got started on my work, I wanted to sit there and watch him play. He’s only three. It’s amazing what those darn kids can …read more

A Must-Read: What Men Don’t Tell Women About Business

My husband and I tried to start a business together many, many years ago. When computers were new and all the rage and the internet was making its debut, he and I decided to custom build, sell and design computers for consumers. I would handle the administrative side of the business and he would handle the technical and physical side. We layed out a business plan, developed short and long-term goals for the business in addition to other things and we were set for business.
Only thing, was that my darling husband and I simply could not get along. He didn’t …read more

Starting your own business can be a daunting task. Not only does it take a lot of courage, but it also requires quite a bit of business sense and resources. The first thing I did when I decided to start my own business was to find out where there was a need. The very first business I started was over fifteen years ago when I was working in corporate America as a Staff …read more
