Which NFL coach will be fired next?

Detroit Lions head coach Rod Marinelli

First it was the St. Louis Rams canning Scott Linehan. Then, the Oakland Raiders finally fired Lane Kiffin. But, which NFL franchise will be the next to make a coaching change?

The Raiders finally pulled the trigger on Kiffin, firing him after weeks of speculation. Al Davis said he ‘picked the wrong guy’ when he chose Kiffin for the job. Linehan was canned by the Rams after starting the season 0-4. Yet, I have to wonder, who’s next?

Is Marvin Lewis’ job safe in Cincinnati? What about Rod Marinelli in Detroit? Marinelli is actually my choice for the next guy to go. The Lions have finally proved they will fire someone (after Matt Millen was kicked to the curb) and there is no sign of improvement in sight.

The Lions are 0-3 in 2008, losing to three teams with a .500 record. The statistics for the Lions are just as bad as their winless record. Detroit is 26th in total offense (289 yards per game) and dead last in total defense (430 yards allowed per game).

So, it’s not hard to point fingers and speculate about Marinelli’s fate in Detroit. It seems like it’s only a matter of time.

Browns Fans Already Calling For Brady Quinn?

Dallas Cowboys v Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns lost to the Dallas Cowboys 28-10 this past Sunday. I didn’t believe they had a shot of winning the game anyway but I did wonder at least a couple things:

  1. Why they kicked that field goal instead of trying to go for a touchdown on 4th down?
  2. Why Tony Romo got so much time in the pocket and didn’t start bleeding til the 2nd half?

And as you can see, one of those questions was NOT when is Brady Quinn going to play. But in reading WaitingForNextYear.com, a Browns fan was/is wondering that question. Hmm. I guess that happens. I’m sure a lot of franchises have fans who after watching their team not be able to do anything on defense demand for a quarterback change. Seems very common.

Brandon Jacobs runs over LaRon Landry (video and photo)

What a way to start the NFL season! In Thursday night’s kickoff game of the 2008 season, New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs absolutely plowed Washington Redskins safety LaRon Landry. Take a look at the video of this play and many others by Jacobs. The play that Landry would like to forget begins at the 14-second mark. Don’t worry, in case you don’t happen to see the play the first time, John Madden is there to let you know exactly when it happened. “RIGHT THERE… on Landry.” Thanks John… I think we saw it.

Here’s a great picture from the hit as well. I don’t think that’s how Landry was taught how to tackle. This is guaranteed to be a top play for the season.
