Not to mention 2 inches of solid muscle mass in 21 days. All yours for answering three simple questions from IronWorkout.com. Today I was your guinea pig and I’ll tell you what was on the other side after filling in the questionnaire. Here were my answers:

I’m between 20 and 29.

My workout experience is advanced.

sxc.hu

I can bench between 250 and 300.

The email sends you a link for your first “e-course” which covers bench and basically advocates proper lifting. Here is the link to the page. At the bottom of the website, you’ll see a link for a sales page on the program. The only thing that impressed me was the number of “testimonials” the author was able to secure.

Maybe they’re real. Maybe they’re not. I actually didn’t like the way the guy’s body looked so even if I was considering such a book, I wouldn’t have bought the program. In the end these weight lifting books probably have some really good info, but nothing you can’t find for free with a little digging and searching on the web. If you’re making a purchase because you think you’ll magically unlock a lot of secrets, make sure you’ve worked out extensively beforehand and aren’t just tricking yourself into thinking you’re working towards your goal. Secrets or not, you still have to put in the work.

It’s been good to relax with my brothers all in town celebrating Mother’s Day and having dinner together. Normally I’m over here for computer support. Today while I was here I’m following up on an issue from last time.

Dad’s got some weird stuff going on with his computer. Odd, random shut-downs, no-Internet connections will work, and it won’t recognize USB drives anymore.

It’s been getting slower and slower, so I’m suggesting a complete wipe of the hard drive and refresh of the system to factory specs. This may seem extreme, but after recently doing this for my own laptop after 3 years of use, I was impressed with how snappy things perked up.

The question then becomes for my dad to review his system and then catalog what applications he really needs and uses on the desktop. I suggested for him to review the programs that are installed and listed in the Add/Remove programs. The next step is to review what programs are listed in the Start > Programs menu.

After making a list of the applications he uses and needs to have reinstalled, he needs to find all the program installation discs for those applications. This is a helpful task to undergo whether or not you’re preparing for disaster or a scheduled recovery and reboot.

A number of years ago PC Magazine started providing collections of downloaded files, tools and applications to users to help them manage their systems. These programs used to just be available on the CD-ROM’s that you’d get when you purchased an issue of their magazine, or they’d send it to you when you paid for a subscription.

Now those applications have become worthy software components of their own. One of those programs that have been developed and tweaked over the years into a robust and very useful application for many users is Startup Cop 4, which is now celebrating it’s 10 Year Anniversary.

PCMag’s computer apps program, which started out as a free reader perk, has churned out some top-notch utilities over the past two decades. In particular, Startup Cop Pro has become the de facto standard for Windows startup management. Startup Cop Pro celebrates ten years with an anniversary version—Startup Cop Pro 4—now available for download. Full details below and at http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2346165,00.asp.

If you’re system is running slowly, the first question I ask is how many applications are starting up and sitting in the system tray just waiting on the chance that you’re going to use it during this session while you’re working.

Gain control over how you think you’re system is trying to be helpful. Use Startup Cop 4 to find out what’s happening and either allow it to continue, or shut it down at the source.
