Rafael Nadal Wins 2009 Australian Open

It took five sets, but Rafael Nadal defeated Roger Federer in the men’s singles at the 2009 Australian Open. This was the longest match in the tournament’s history, taking 4 hours and 23 minutes. WOW! Nadal won with 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-2.
This victory for Nadal keeps the Grand Slam record safe for now. Federer had a chance to tie Pete Sampras’s 14 Grand Slam title, but it just didn’t happen on Sunday.

Spaniard Rafael Nadal won his first round match in the 2009 Australian Open in just 77 minutes. He absolutely dominated the court against Christophe Rochus of Belgium, winning 6-0, 6-2, 6-2 at Rod Laver Arena.
Nadal definitely showed no signs of knee issues and his opponent moving side to side across the court. He commented that he merely wanted to get off on a good start and was not trying to send a message.
“I played well, especially the serve and the forehand,” Nadal said.
