Normally we write about fitness tips here, but we like to incorporate some nutrition advice is well. After all, eating healthy and staying fit go hand in hand. Today, let’s talk about putting down the beer and having a glass of wine instead.
Many people like to have a beer or other alcoholic beverage when socializing or relaxing. Consuming too much alcohol can certainly be unhealthy and lead to many types of problems. But research shows that consuming as little as one glass of red wine a day can actually have a whole host of positive effects on the body.

3 Blind Moose’s Cabernet Sauvignon Review

I love to cook and seem to have a knack for it. I say knack because my husband continues to eat my cooking and doesn’t complain. That’s something, right?
In the past, I’ve made red wine braised pot roast and it was amazing. The only problem was that I couldn’t remember what brand of wine I used. During our weekly grocery trip, I found myself walking up and down the wine and beer aisle at Target looking for something that appealed to me and something that I thought would work with what I was making.
Two things to know about me when …read more
Gadgets: The Vinturi

I got a Vinturi recently, and thought it was kinda neat, but didn’t pay it too much attention. I was too caught up in the idea that I needed to decant a full bottle of wine into a fancy decanter in order to give it enough time to breathe so it tasted good. AND then, I was (well, ok, am) convinced that I need(ed) to have the right glasses for that wine. Ones made for that specific kind of wine. (OK, yes. I’m a Reidel fanboy. It seriously makes a difference. You want to know? Lemme know and I’ll see …read more

I got an email from one of my favourite local PR girls, telling me to Go to Hell. My first thought was “uh, no, YOU go to hell!” and then I realized that a) she’s far too sweet to ever tell me that, and b) she was inviting me to a launch of the new Hellbent Wine.
Hellbent Wine is a new Australian Shiraz Cabernet created by Whitefish Group and winemaker Kevin O’Brien of Kangarilla Road Winery.
I have to say that for a $17 bottle of wine, Hellbent is damn good. The grapes are from the Southern Fleurieu region, and give …read more

I’m back from my whirlwind trip of the south (or the upper south as some referred to it as) with 100’s of pictures and more knowledge about the making of bourbon than I ever thought I’d need to know. Overall, it’s a pretty interesting process, and soon you’ll know all about it too!
While I’m getting my images processed and posts written, I came across something that I just had to share. There’s a team of (young) students at Rice University in Texas who are trying to create a beer that mimics some of the properties that make red wine the …read more
Summer Sangria

One of my favourite summer drinks is a good Sangria (but not blue Sangria. Just regular good Sangria).
From a good friend of mine comes the following recipe:
Bottle of red wine
1 1/4 cups blackberry brandy
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/3 cup frozen lemonade concentrate
1 orange, cut in pieces
1 apple, cut in pieces
1/4 cup cherries halves (Optional. I use a cherry pitter to take the pits out.)
1 tablespoon of sugar
1 cup diet sprite (you can use regular if you want)
Mix in a large jug. Stick in the fridge for a few days and enjoy. If you make this today, you’ll have a gorgeous sangria …read more
