There’s this eternal debate about Politics and Religion, which I really don’t want to go into. Now, I’m faced with this? Bleh.

Nah, it’s not like Religion is trying to run the Sports World kind of thing, it’s only about Vatican taking the opportunity to speed up talks and establish diplomatic relations with China with the 2008 Summer Olympics paving the way.

According to the article I read, the ties between the two were cut in 1951 and the Vatican has maintained relations with Taiwan, the self-ruled island that Beijing considers a breakaway province. But they have been trying to re-establish contact for the past few years.

However, they need to find some sort of compromise since right now, China still feels that they shouldn’t allow Catholics to recognize the authority of the Pope for it may interfere in its internal affairs.

China has been known to be a communist country but they have opened their doors to the world and the most is their hosting of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

I just hope this won’t dampen the atmosphere of the Games should it push through because, though talks may be peaceful, it somehow will create difference in opinions and past grievances may re-surface, which are quite reasonable yet untimely. It’s a sad thought if you think about it.
