SEGA waxes nostalgic, to release Ultimate Mega Drive Collection for Xbox 360, PS3
PC World Australia may have beaten me to the punch, but the news about SEGA’s impending release of the Ultimate Mega Drive Collection for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 is still news.
Late last year, the SEGA Ultimate Mega Drive Collection had merely been a rumor. Now, it’s a reality, and it’s coming to video game store shelves this January 26, at least in Australia. Is it also slated for release in North America and Europe? I really have no idea.
All I know is what’s in the SEGA Ultimate Mega Drive Collection. Here’s a partial rundown: Sonic the Hedgehog (1, …read more
Even the iPhone is going retro
I know, I know … it was only a matter of time before the powerful allure of the past caught up with the equally powerful pull of the future, but the news is surprising nonetheless. Yes, retro games are now available for the iPhone, the 4.5 inch by 2.4 inch by 0.48 inch marvel of technology created by Apple, and have been for some time now.\r\n\r\nIGN\’s Levi Buchanan gives us the lowdown on retro video games on the iPhone:\r\n\r\n
The iPhone may be the newest gaming rig on the field, but it\’s starting to host its fair share of yesteryear. Some …read more
Metroid Quarantine: Samus Aran and her universe in Lego
Dangnabit! The title is a dead giveaway! Well, I\’d like you to take a gander at the image below:\r\n\r\n
\r\n\r\nPretty little Lego spaceship, eh? It\’s actually a model of Samus Aran\’s gunship in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and is part of a collection of images on Flickr known as Metroid Quarantine. The collection of Metroid-related pictures is but the tip of the iceberg. The group also has a website known as (what else!) Metroid Quarantine, The Metroid Blog.\r\n\r\nGo check out Metroid Quarantine\’s other photos.\r\n\r\nOh, and if you\’re wondering what Samus Aran\’s gunship looks like in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, here\’s a …read more
Company of Heroes machinima: Frank and Dale #1
Yes, it’s machinima time once again. This time, let’s take a look at Company of Heroes machinima Frank and Dale – Episode 1, otherwise known as Field. In the first installment of the series, created by Richard BF, a bloke from Australia, we find Frank and Dale (yes, they’re the lead characters in the series) in a field somewhere in Europe during World War II. And it’s not just any field, as Frank points out to Dale.
Why don’t I just shut up and let you watch the video:
The first time I watched the clip, I found the humor dry. No …read more
How to make Samus Aran out of Lego
First, I\’d like to clarify that this is not a reposting of How to make a Samus Aran sculpture out of Lego, which saw the light of digital day a couple of weeks ago on Re:Retro.\r\n\r\nWith that out of the way, we can now proceed with How to make Samus Aran out of Lego:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nOf course, after viewing the video, you\’ve probably realized that the tutorial has nothing to do with Lego bricks but with creating a facsimile of Metroid\’s Samus Aran out of pieces of a, uhmm, Lego person.\r\n\r\nYou\’ve got to give the kid credit, though. He just showed us …read more
Gordon Freeman in Mario Land
Ever heard of crossovers? In comic books, sure, crossovers are a dime a dozen. In the past dozen or so years, we’ve seen crossovers within the same universe, like Superman versus Lobo for the DC Universe and Spiderman versus The Hulk in the Marvel Universe, and between universes, such as the DC versus Marvel crossover, which has resulted in the creation of the Amalgam Universe.
Waitaminute! This blog isn’t about comic books! Duh! It’s about retro and classic video games. So where are the crossovers in the video gaming realm? Believe it or not, the most well known crossover in this …read more
Watch Samus dance the Metroid
I almost feel sorry about posting this video of our favorite interstellar bounty hunter Samus Aran dancing to the beat of Usher’s Yeah after reading good friend PJ Punla’s comment on my most recent article on b5media technology blog MMOtaku titled Girl gamers gaining ground in MMOs.
The temptation, however, is hard to pass up, especially if you’ve seen Max Payne dance. Eerie and freaky.
So without further ado, I present you Metroid’s Samus Aran dancing to Usher’s Yeah:
Even students are into the Mario Christmas spirit
Here’s a simple video made by Evan Ferguson of Australia for his class:
Not too shabby for a student. I’m sure Santa Claus got the surprise of his jolly life.
You’re probably sick of Super Mario Brothers-themed Christmas postings, but for those who missed the first two, here are the links:
Have a very Mario Christmas!
Have a very Mario Christmas, too!
Oh, and go check out Evan’s other video, “A newb’s first linerider!”
Monty Oum’s Haloid: Samus Aran versus Master Chief
Monty Oum\\\\\\\’s short films and other works have been posted and re-posted on the Internet ad nauseum, but there\\\\\\\’s only one Monty Oum and we are amazed at power of his craft. Take the Haloid: Samus Aran versus Master Chief video as an example. To date, the film, first posted by ACEfromRUSSIA on YouTube, has racked up more than 1,828,394 views. That\\\\\\\’s not bad, considering the original high definition video posted by Monty Oum on GameTrailers, well, lags behind at 338,342 views.\\\\r\\\\n\\\\r\\\\nFor the benefit of those who don\\\\\\\’t know who Samus Aran and Master Chief are, and what the heck …read more
Play Tetris and Breakout on a piggy bank
I’ve stumbled upon these unique piggy banks that allow you to, well, save while playing two classic video games, Tetris and Breakout. Of course, you need to deposit a coin to play a game, much like the way real arcade game machines function.
Come to think of it, these piggy bank arcade game machines don’t just force you to save but you can probably make them pay for themselves by allowing others to play Tetris and Breakout on them. Hey, at USD 40.74 per piggy bank, that’s not such a bad idea.
