Lou Holtz is best known for being the outspoken commentator and ex-coach of Notre Dame. Today, he announced that he might get into politics as well. Holtz is considering running for one of the Congress seats in Florida as a Republican. The GOP seat he’d go after is currently held by Democrat U.S. Representative Suzanne Kosmas.

Holtz may be a grid iron demi-god, but he doesn’t have any government experience. At 72, he has never run for office before. After coaching at Notre Dame and South Carolina, he retired at the end of the 2004 season and became an analyst at ESPN.

Chairman of Orlando’s Orange County Republican Executive Committee Lew Oliver says that the Republican leaders in Florida are surprised that Holtz is considering running, since he hasn’t been involved in the party in the past.

Holtz won’t have an easy run if he does decide to pursue the seat. Two Republican legislators from Florida and a local Orlando commissioner have already confirmed that they’ll be running for the Republican nomination.

New York – Following news that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin secretly signed an incentive-laden, deferred contract to play for the NBA’s New York Knicks beginning November 5^th,  eTrueSports has learned of a previous personal and business relationship between Palin and the team.

In an exhaustive, no-spandex-left-untouched investigation, eTS has established that Sarah Palin spent two seasons as a Knick City Dancer in the late 1990s.

When reached on the campaign trail, deep in Idaho’s Bitter Root Mountains, Palin admitted she had danced at Madison Square Garden, but denied rumors linking her romantically with then Knick power forward Charles Oakley.

“Charles and me, we were cool,” Palin said. “But that’s all there was to it.” As for dancing, Palin says she was proud to have made the Knicks’ dance team, despite being 15 years older than her colleagues.

“It was fun, gyratin’ and gruntin’ in front of all the liberal media types,” she said. “They slobbered themselves somethin’ silly.”

Palin dismissed a report that as part of her new player contract with the Knicks that she would be required to once again don spandex. “It’s my choice,” explained Palin. “Maybe for one of the fellas birthdays I might do a cake routine. We’ll see.”

In addition, Palin expressed frustration that the Vice-Presidential campaign was infringing on her basketball practice time, candidly admitting she was having trouble mastering the lay-up shot. “Usually I just bomb from the outside,” Palin said.

Sarah Palin a Former Knicks Chick?

And given George W.’s low approval rating, that’s saying something.

Indeed, People.com quotes the President—a Republican, for those of you who’ve been residing under a rock in Fiji since 2000 (and you know who you are)—as saying “We’re going to send Jessica Simpson to the Democratic National Convention.” The joke is a reference to Simpson’s presence at Tony Romo’s games, which coincided with the Dallas Cowboys QB’s worst career outing.

And yes, blogs like this one did their fair share of perpetuating the notion that Simpson is unluckier than a black cat walking under a ladder and then smashing a mirror when it gets to the other side, all on Friday the 13th.

As for Simpson, she’s been sporting a ring on The Finger (not the one you salute fellow drivers with; the one to the left of that one). Ashlee’s big sis also gushes about the benefits of being Romo’s cake feeder and arm charm, namely that she doesn’t have to present herself a “deeper,”more profound,” or “more intellectual.”

What a relief. Few things are scarier than the thought of Jessica Simpson trying to hash out existentialist philosophy and the significance of death in 19th century Russian literature while sipping espresso in an indie coffeehouse somewhere. We’ve been spared!
