First the good news. Ricky is getting married this weekend to his girlfriend Kristin Barnes. I have to say it’s refreshing to see someone with Ricky’s past to embrace life in this way and get hitched. He has made a public spectacle of himself, and then matured in front of all of our eyes so we no longer have anything to say but “Well done.”

Ricky is playing one more year with the Dolphins. But here’s the other interesting tidbit about this young man (and he still is young, thought thankfully not as young as when he was the poster boy for smoking weed and losing your lucrative football job.) Ricky is doing a documentary. Himself. As in: he has hired someone to film his “true story.” The thing is, this ain’t new. He first hired on this documentary film staff in 2004. And they are still filming.

That’s a no brainer. Ricky’s story is anything but over. When we thought it was over was when he left Miami and the U.S. Left football. Went on 60 Minutes and talked about smoking weed with no apologies. I’m glad they didn’t film his life then.

Because the life we see unfold before us is so much more interesting. When will the documentary be finished? What will happen next with Ricky? Time will tell. Until then, we’ll be watching with a smile at someone we used to just shake our heads at.

Ricky Williams to Do Marriage, Documentary

Huh?

Durant was a great player and all, but does a one-and-done player who didn’t win a thing while with the Longhorns deserve to be in the same class as Vince Young, Ricky Williams, Roger Clemens and T.J. Ford?

In his one and only season at Texas in 2006-07, Durant was an All-American, the Big 12 Player of the Year and National Player of the Year among other numerous awards he received.

He opted out for the NBA Draft and had a very solid season for the Seattle (soon to be Oklahoma City) Supersonics winning NBA Rookie of the Year honors.

But does he really deserve to have his jersey retired at a school known for its outstanding athletes who all stayed for more than one year?
