What do you think? Will they really get married this time?

With this latest rumor that Brad Childress, coach of the Minnesota Vikings, has flown down to Mississippi to see Brett Favre and possibly offer him a starting quarterback job, the Packer fans of the world can’t help but to feel… anger, bewilderment, excitement.

On one hand, I’m am angry at the whole process. Angry at Brett, at Thompson, at the league, at nothing and everything all at once. Mostly, I’m angry because once again my attention and emotions are taken up with a player who isn’t even on our team.

I’m bewildered at this crazy career and life Brett has had. He keeps us guessing, both on the field and off. For example, after plenty of “I have no plans to play football again” talk now a source claims that “Indications are Favre is as anxious to join the Vikings as Childress is to have him running an offense that includes Pro Bowl running back Adrian Peterson and wide receivers Bernard Berrian and Percy Harvin.”

I am excited. Yes, excited. It’s like watching your old boyfriend come home and pick a fight with your new boyfriend. You have warm feelings for your old boyfriend. But he left you. Now your loyalty and love is with your new one. But when the two of them fight? It’s exciting. I’ve actually gotten to the point where I WANT him to play for the Vikings, both so I can see him play again and so we can beat him. And yet, there is a part of me that would be sad to beat him, too. Only Favre can pull up such emotions in a fan. That’s why we love him, hate him, and can’t stop talking about him.

As a Packer fan, I foolishly never thought I’d be commenting on Brett Favre again. It seems to me that people either love him or hate him. I fall right down the middle and actually look at him as a player. Not a god. Not a devil.

But now that there are the “rumors” that he could once again come out of retirement, here I am once again talking about him. You have to admit one thing, the guy is never boring. Not in the way he plays and not in the hype that follows him.

In case you haven’t heard, Favre asked for a release from the Jets way back in February when he retired. It was finally granted late Tuesday night after the Jets had finally secured a quarterback. The Jets couldn’t have kept Favre because they couldn’t afford him under the salary cap this year. A release was the only option.

Now the “rumor” is that he could go to Minnesota, something he wanted to do last year when the Packers decided to play hard ball. But who is more stubborn? Packers GM Ted Thompson or Favre? Rumors have swirled that the two have butted heads from the beginning, with Thompson wanting Favre gone so he could bring his new favorite Aaron Rodgers on the scene. Last year, Thompson finally made that happen. To make darn good and sure that Favre couldn’t play against Green Bay (and perhaps because Thompson wanted to stick it to Favre a bit more) he put a clause into his trade agreement that if the Jets traded Favre to any NFC North team, they would give Green Bay three first round draft picks.

So you know the Jets weren’t doing that!

However, Favre retired. (I know… again.) And asked for his release. The Jets, now secure with a new quarterback, granted it. That leaves Favre a free agent should he want to return to football. (I can hear Ted Thompson gnashing his teeth as I write this.)

Favre, for his part, said, “At this time, I am retired and have no intention of returning to football.”

Those three words (”at this time”) are what has everyone reeling.

For my part, I think Favre very much could come back to the league. After all, he’s the same age as my favorite Kurt Warner, who just got re-signed with the Cardinals. Since the Vikings are missing a great quarterback at the moment, it might make sense for him to go there.

Will Packer fans be pissed? If they are anything like me, they will be reminded of a very ugly part of their history, where a GM and a player couldn’t treat each other with respect. It won’t diminish the player’s records, but it does bring back a whole set of issues that have nothing to do with the spirit of the game.

All last year we were reminded about “the Favre saga” every single game. Packers Coach Mike McCarthy even went so far as to compare Rodgers physical stats to Favre. Like…. who cares? Can everyone just shut up and play?

I was looking forward to a season where Rodgers would stop trying to jaw about being a great quarterback and just show us he is. I was looking forward to announcers to calling the game that played before them, and not one that happened a few years before with another quarterback. I was looking forward to people realistically looking at the Packers, and not “what they were” or “what they could be.”

But now? I am filled with a combination of fascination and dread at the thought of having “the Favre controversy” brought back to the NFC North once again. One thing is for sure, I’m never saying “the Favre saga” is done ever again!

If these are taken using the iPhone, it seems pretty decent for a camera phone. I’m getting excited already. I wish it’s June already.

Macworld is just a few hours away and before reality sets in and all the goodies are revealed, let me express some of my thoughts and predictions on what we’ll be seeing.

Like most Macworld’s in recent history, this is sure to be another highly anticipated event. Duh?!? Steve has done what no other CEO has, to actually get people so hyped up about products that may or may not exsist. Steve has everyone guessing and on their toes. The hype that is Macworld is truly deafening. In fact the noise that is Macworld has eclipsed most fireworks celebrations this New Year.

Apple’s web site main image reads “The first 30 years were just the beginning. Welcome to 2007.” Normally I’d treat this just as the usual New Year’s greeting however, since it’s Macworld and since it’s Apple who said it, it most likely has double meaning. The text suggests big things this year for Apple. I sure hope so.

A lot of Apple watchers have said that the legend of Steve Jobs and the hype of it’s product announcements might be it’s own undoing. Expectations are so high that if Apple fails to deliver earth shattering, paradigm shifting products the repercussions might be disastrous for the famed company from Cuppertino. The excitment is at a fever pitch that nothing less than an “iPhone”, “iTV”, “Video iPod” or an early release of Leopard will appease Mac faithfuls.

My Predictions

1. iPhone or whatever it will be named – There’s just too much info going around about the iPhone that it’s just too hard to ignore. I think it’s the right time for Apple to announce this. The buzz is there, it’s been awhile since they’ve come up with something with the iPod’s caliber when it first came out. It’s time to wow us once again.

2. Updated Mac Pros – With intel’s new chip, it’s wise for Apple to update the Mac Pros. It’s also been a few months since the Mac Pros were introduced and it’s almost time for an update.

3. New Cinema Displays – Brighter, larger, Sleeker and it will come with a built-in iSight. I’m also looking at displays over 30″. That can double as your monitor and/or TV.

4. iTV – This is a long shot. It’s sure to come out this year but I’m not quite sure it will make it for Macworld.

5. iLife 07 & iWork 07 – This is the usual time that new versions of these software are released.

Now that I’ve made my predictions here are:

Things That I’m Hoping For But Probably Will Not Come True

1. 12″ Ultrathin MacBook Pro – Need I say more? Portable bliss..

2. Hybrid iTV and Cinema Display – The true all in one media center. In aluminum finish please.

3. A new MacBook Pro Form Factor – I love the Powerbook/MacBook Pro design but I think it’s time for a little update to this. I’m thinking a magnetic latch same as the Macbooks, a little thinner, black aluminum would be nice.

So keynote is in about a few hours. Let’s wait and see what new goodies, Steve pulls out his sleeves.

MacRumors has published an update to the now almost fever pitch frenzy of speculation about the rumored iPhone. As January draws ever so nearer, rumors are beginning to hit a peak.

Rebecca F Runkle of Morgan Stanley has high hopes that the iPhone will be released in the first half of Jan, 2007. She also said that unnamed sources have said that pricing for the iPhone will be $599 for 4GB and $649 for the 8GB. Now this is a more realistic pricing. I wasn’t really optimistic that Apple will be selling the phones for the rumored $249 and $449 respestively for 4GB and 8GB models. I mean c’mon that’s near the current prices of iPods. With the added features of a phone it would certainly cost more. Besides the prices quoted by Rebecca are more inline with products from other mobile manufacturers that are selling similarly spec’d products. So the $599 and $649 are likely to be closer to the actual retail prices in my opinion.

Other details that were disclosed are, metal casing, various colors, wider than the nano but thinner than the video, a full screen 3.5″ LCD screen with a virtual click wheel.

I’m really excited for the upcoming iPhone. Oh please, please God let it be true. However I might skip this current version and wait for the smart phone that is also rumored to be released.

Someone has managed to snap a photo of the Sept 12 poster. If this is any sign of things to come, if this poster is true, dang.. The device which looks to be the 6th Gen iPod looks wicked… Widescreen aspect ration, front row like interface, simple form factor.. Winner..

With only a few days shy of opening day for WWDC, a lot of Apple fans are in feverish anticipation. While the WWDC is aimed at developers even the non-developers are excited. Why? Apple uses events like this to announce and preview products.

With only a few days shy of opening day for WWDC, a lot of Apple fans are in feverish anticipation. While the WWDC is aimed at developers even the non-developers are excited. Why? Apple uses events like this to announce and preview products.

WWDC 2005 was focused on the transition to Intel processors. No new products were really announced. However the transition was as big a news as they come. Some of the highlights of the keynote were:

Introduction of Podcast Directory

iTunes update

Announcement of Intel transition

Steve Jobs reveals that OS X has been leading a double life. It has been compiled to run on Intel processors

Talks by people from Wolfram Research, Microsoft, Adobe and Intel

You can watch the entire keynote presentation here.

Now what will 2006 bring? Will it be again more of developer news sans new products? I don’t think so. One thing’s for sure, Leopard will be previewed. That’s no secret as it is stated in the WWDC 2006 homepage.

I’m thinking that the new Mac Pros (replacement for the Powermac G5) will be announced. Core 2 Duo anyone? I’m also thinking that an update to the MacBook Pros will be unveiled. For this one I’m seeing some minor cosmetic upgrades, maybe a magnetic latch same as the Macbooks and the new Merom processor powering it. As well as some other new products. At first I was leaning towards predicting that new iPods will be announced. I’m however retracting that. I don’t think new iPods will be announced. They’re more for consumers and I think Apple will unveil them in a separate event. Whatever products will be announced this WWDC they will all have something to do with developers and pro users. Not so much for consumers.

Macrumors has an article with their predictions. I basically agree with what they’re saying. See, even they aren’t saying that iPods will be launched. Mostly products geared towards developers.

There’s also an interesting article from DVD Newsroom where they apparently have a contact high-up at Apple. Their article is a transcript from a phone conversation. If this is true, this is close to what I believe.

One thing I’m particularly interested in their conversation is the mention of Apple really focusing on iChat and pushing it in the near future. Recently I got an iSight and have been trying out iChat’s multi-way video chats and I must say it’s terrific. I wasn’t a big fan of video chats before but I think I’m slowly being swayed. I can’t wait to see what Apple comes up with. Now, iChat as a purely chatting software is miles behind messenger clients for Windows but it shines in the video chatting aspect. The quality I’m experiencing with iChat is far better than what I used to get with Windows based instant messaging clients. So I’m really interested in what Apple does to improve this.

So that’s my thoughts on WWDC. Too bad I won’t be able to monitor it live via the net and see what’s coming up. I’ll be at the hospital for a scheduled infusion. Wish me luck.

Was browsing Emerging Earth, which led me to Rick Segal’s blog. Turns out that Apple has been dropping subtle hints about adopting a new chip for their portable devices – one that decreases battery life -but optimizes performance to the level of .. well .. a personal digital assistant.

The Portal Player is a 16bit chip and has proven itself as a solid performer for the main applications of a portable media device (music, photo’s video), and Portal Player is releasing a new chip with improved video performance. The Samsung chip is a 32-bit chip based on an ARM design. This will of course result in decreased battery life, and I didn’t really see what was to be gained.

Then I was struck by the possibility that they could run OS-X on a 32-bit ARM with very little changes to the OS. Though I haven’t come across much data about Unix running on an ARM, I have run across some details of Linux running on ARM devices so I don’t think it is a huge step for OS-X to make that jump. Look how quickly they made the jump to x86.

Wow native OSX on the palm of your hand! This only leaves us with more things to ponder on:

1. The time of the portable music player will soon be gone? It;s just how all mobile phones manufactured today CAN play music and shoot pictures. It would take a company like Apple to tip the market via way of uber cool design, making consumers demand for PMP’s instead of sole music players.

2. Palm will OEM and release the Palm 700m which will run Mac OSX natively, with a Palm hardware design.

3. I’m going to die with a silly grin on my face.

The anticipation is reaching fever pitch. Is the long awaited Macbook finally coming?!?! Well if the image above is a sign, it’s coming… and soon. The above image came from a page at the Apple web site.
Macrumors is saying May. An unverified source has told Macrumors that Macbooks are coming in the coming week. Some Apple stores have received materials for a product set to be released on tuesday. The materials are sealed with specific instructions to only open them on Tuesday. Whoa?!? even Apple’s employees aren’t allowed to see the materials in advance. How’s that for secretive?
