Running on Different Surfaces

Running is tremendous exercise, but that doesn’t mean there can’t be adverse effects. The surface you run on determines a lot in terms of your running ability, injuries incurred, and other factors. Below are some important considerations to consider on where you run. The (+) sign represents pros and the (-) sign represents cons.
Treadmill (+)
- safe environment
- less pounding on feet and knees than hard surfaces (cement, asphalt, etc.)
- regulated temperature
- time and miles calculated
- adjust your grade (incline)

Minimize Impact on Your Knees When Training

If you’re heavy into cross training, you can increase your risk to injury even though the exercise is of direct benefit to your health and fitness. Exercises involving types of running and squatting can put a tremendous amount of stress on your knees due to the pounding and pressure. However, there are a few workout alterations you can implement to help out your knees.
