Firefly: Tea Flavored Vodka

If you’re from the South then you’re well acquainted with sweet tea.
Two of my favorite alcoholic concoctions includes sweet tea: sweet tea with Sailor Jerry Rum and sweet tea citrus vodka.
Imagine my delight when I heard this weekend that there is a tea flavored vodka out there called Firefly.
Now, I haven’t tried Firefly myself but I have it on very good authority that Firefly is something that is not only amazing but is something that should not, under any circumstances, be trifled with.
From what my cousins say, this is a drink that you should approach with a very large heaping …read more

Drunk the Next Day

Oh, my aching head!
I did something very, very stupid last night. I drank way too much and didn’t realize that I was doing it. Let me explain.
I have Sailor Jerry Rum and was mixing it with sweet tea. I’m from the South and sweet tea down here is an art. Mine is slightly bitter but very sweet and just a tinge darker than the Sailor Jerry Rum. For some reason last night, the tea and the rum conspired against me in a perfect storm reminiscent of my college years.
I mixed my first drink strong but realized that I wasn’t tasting …read more

What Should I Drink?

The alcohol, it is all gone. I have none in my house and I’m left, not only sober but also wondering what I will buy next.
I tend to play it safe and I almost always get Sailor Jerry Rum. I know. I know. You’re tired of hearing about it and you don’t want to read about my rum fetish any longer.
Fine!
I’m willing to branch out. I’m not that scared…OK…maybe a little. I know what I like and when I find something that works, I tend to stick with it. Call me loyal.
I want something that I can mix with Diet …read more

Bullish Sailor

Now, I know that I’m not reinventing the wheel here and I figure that someone else has come up with this same concoction but has given it a more inventive name.
HOWEVER, I did come up with my drink on a Friday night after I had tossed two kids under 3 into their beds.
So here’s the recipe for a “Bullish Sailor”.
Bullish Sailor
Ingredients:

Big ole can of Red Bull [I used the sugar free version]
about 3 shots of Sailor Jerry Rum
ice

Directions:
Take your glass of choice [I used a party cup cause I'm high class] and dump in some ice. Pour your Sailor …read more

Red-Headed Slut

When you’re drinking a brand of rum named after one of the best known “bad boys”-Sailor Jerry-you’re bound to run into some interesting drink names. It’s part and parcel to the WWII Naval lifestyle and heritage.
If you can stomach the drink’s name [I think they're funny] then you’re in for a hell of a good drink.
The Red-Headed Slut

50ml Sailor Jerry Rum [a little over a shot]
12.5ml Chambord [French black raspberry liqueur]
50ml Raspberry Puree
50ml Cranberry Juice

Directions:
Mix everything together and serve in your favorite rocks glass.

My True Love – Sailor Jerry Rum

My True Love – Sailor Jerry Rum

When I was in college, I was a huge fan of rum.
Any kind would do and Lord knows I drank some stuff that was just above fermented shoe leather only because the stuff I was drinking had been bought in a store.  Somewhere around my Sophomore year, I discovered Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum and thought that I had found true love.
I mixed that stuff with everything under the sun and loved it dearly. Weekends at the frat houses were spent blissfully oblivious to the fact that my rum just wasn’t what it should have been.
Well, like every first love, that …read more
