After the his Salt Lake City plunge at the start line of the qualifications of the Men’s 2×500m Speed Skating event, Jeremy Wotherspoon was determined to leave these bad memories behind him.
After all, he won the silver medal at Nagano in 1998.
Well, as it turns out, he didn’t hold up to the challenge. He choked. From a preliminary 5th place after the 1st run, he slipped in 9th overall, even falling behind fellow Canadian Michael Ireland who finished 7th.

Other Canadians were Vincent Labrie and Brock Miron who finished 29th and 30th respectively.

Joey Cheek of the United States won the gold medal and is the undisputed champion this time around. Congratulations!

Dmitry Dorofeyev of Russia finished 2nd with the silver and Kang Seok Lee of South Korea finished 3rd for the bronze.

Complete results can be consulted here.

Wotherspoon was quoted in saying: “I really felt like I let myself down”, “I didn’t race very close to my ability in the first race”, “I was pretty mad at myself after that race. “, “I had a hard time refocusing after that race for the next race.”

The question Wotherspoon must ask himself now is whether he will spend the next 4 years practicing for the 2010 Olympics who will be held in his home country in Vancouver, in front of his people. That will mean more pressure. But can he take it?

In any case, this is disapointing for Team Canada as no medal has been won yet today.

After a promising start with a gold yesterday, Canada had a slow day with a bronze medal. A few athletes underperforming.
In light of this and after 2 days of competition, I would like to know your opinion on Canada’s goal of getting 25 medals in Torino.
In Salt Lake City, Canada got 17 medals, a record in recent Olympics. Now going from 17 to 25 medals would be a 28% improvement. Is that really realistic?
I created a poll with DPoll where you can vote. If an admin of the site can put the code in iframes it would be sharp, otherwise, [...]
Post from: EveryJoe
