Movie Review: ‘The Blind Side’

As an NFL writer for the past ten years, Michael Oher’s remarkable story is not new to me. I was introduced via Michael Lewis’ 2006 book The Blind Side. It was a fascinating account of how the position of left tackle in the National Football League has evolved into one of its most important and highest-paying jobs. Sandra Bullock is playing a desperate crazy woman again. What a surprise! In the film, Bullock is Mary, a hardworking crossword puzzle writer who never has time for romance and ends up on a blind date with a cable news cameraman. Of course, when she comes face-to-face with Steve (Bradley Cooper) she’s surprised about how attractive he is.

Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds have paired up in The Proposal which actually looks like it could be a great romantic comedy. She definitely has a good track record for making these types of films and we know that Reynolds can bring humor to almost any movie. When I first heard about the casting, though, I thought she might seem too old for him (in real life, there is a 12-year difference) but it actually works.
